Ah, just discovered this update - thanks. Installing now.
Indeed, the list of improvements does have discovery mentioned. Whoopee, looks like the March fix has come to pass.
Back later after the update has finished.

Yep, this update has fixed the discovery problem - at long last.
Looks just like my Insider comps, showing NetBIOS being used to discover Linux devices.
Just to prove it, net view works as it is supposed to.
YIPPEE!!
My 'Main ' has also been updated.. now 10586.122 (Version 1511)....... However...
as my network works anyway without a homegroup now I will not rock the boat by adding the homegroup on all my machines.
Without a Homegroup, I note Discovery method for the Main is NetBios, but for one of the other machines, WSD. Have none of the others present at the moment, but the one that is using WSD is the most important 'slave' and as it can see, be seen, and print to remote printers now that is all I need.
After reading tzr916's response, I checked the laptop and noticed updates were downloading. I applied them. It went smoothly and all the mapped drives reconnected, as they ought to have done all along.
I haven't ever used Homegroup, even while on Windows 7. But my Workgroup is intact.
I suppose I could check the other two machines and see if updates are waiting. But, that can wait until later too.
I'm glad Microsoft found and implemented a solution for this issue relatively quickly.
Mmmm, I wouldn't call 3.5 months 'relatively quickly'. Especially when you consider MS created the problem in the first place.
Anyway, it feels good knowing we are back in the network discovery game again.
LOL! I didn't mean to diminish or insult anyone. I guess that my comment gives credence to the old saying, "Everything is relative."
I hadn't experienced the problem until I upgraded my laptop, and I just did that a couple weeks ago.
I applied the Windows 10 update to all of my 3 computers last night. Everyone of them is "happy" and finding each other well on the network now. I also verified the fix by running the net view command from a non Master Browser machine. That works too.
Nice one, marj. Now we can let all these discovery threads die a natural death and move on!
Cheers - nice to meet you.
I'll chime in too! So glad this fiasco is over! Never had such a PIA issue as this with any upgrade before and hopefully won't with any in the future!!!
We've sort of become buddies in adversity!! And from one side of the world to the other - ain't the Internet amazing?
Now back to seeing if a friend's old Dell XPS 630 will be happy with win 10. But what a monster case! Just noticed two nvidia graphic cards in it. Oh dear, all those tales of nvidia graphic driver issues.............
Cheers.
