Can't see other computers in Workgroup on Windows 10 computer

The thing is, I can see all network printers and some of the computers as media devices. But not as computers themselves and I'm also missing the most important thing, my nas box. I cant use the workaround to make shortcut to network devices. I need to see everything in network map. I've double checked that all required services are running. Done the netcfg.exe -d command like someone suggested elsewhere. Did winsock reset. Nothing seems to work. Laptop is lenovo btw, the other laptop that works is HP, although this is pretty far fetched I'm starting to believe its manufacturer related at this point, as I'm running out of options.

I solved my problem on 3/9 by uninstalling Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140768). After restarting, the other network devices were back: To avoid this in the future, I checked "Defer Updates" in update settings.
I have been able to use the networkdrive until today. I discovered that Windows had installed another update: Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140741). But when I tried to uninstall that one, it would not allow me to do it!

OK. Having this exact problem - can "see" everything on the network like my Synology NAS if I type in their lan address manually etc. but very little shows up in Windows 10 explorer under "networking". This makes it impossible for me to backup to my NAS

With the update I thought "Im saved". But no luck. Still cannot see more than a faction of my network inside WIN10 file explorer. Checked the WIN10 kb update(s) and they are there and installed as they should be alright. Also made sure both SMB1 and SMB2 are enabled in the registry.

What more do I need to do? Did I mess something up trying to fix this problem (in vain) that is now stopping me from seeing everything the way I could before going from WIN7 to 10?

Any suggestions most welcome!

I have had the network visibility problem in a mixed Windows 10 & Windows 7 network for several months & tried everything.
I have just renamed all my PC's so the computer name is in uppercase & my problem was instantly solved.
Windows does't recognise changing the name to uppercase as a name change - so add a letter to the existing name first & then go back & change it to the correct name all in UPPERCASE.
This may be of some help to some of you. I have tried this on 2 networks & it worked on both!

Wow..! I just came to this thread to find that after 27 pages the solution that worked for me was posted just 2 days ago...
UPPER CASE works..! simple as that. Thanks a bunch indigouk.

I have muddled through the 27 pages and no changes/improvements have been found.
Win7 Home upgraded to Win10 about 4mo ago. This PC has VERY little to do - it runs Quickbooks and prints reports. After the Win10 upgrade, everything seemed ok and I mapped the various drives that it needs to save data to. No major issues. I turned it off to change UPS batteries - and the network is gone. Only a re-boot, nothing else was changed. After fiddling with it for a full day - still baffled.

All the usual networking has been checked - I can log in with LogMeIn, print, and run the browsers. I can ping all the local machines and external IP's. WTF?

No connected PC's appear. Other PC's can see it, but it does not respond to a connection attempt. It is hard to believe that MS would not have networking be a core priority above almost anything else. After trying all the discussed remedies in this thread - does anyone have any suggestions where I should look. Hoping to get back to work - but this PC is holding up all progress.

Really weird and frustrating, especially as network discovery problems went away after one of the later updates.

Maybe the re-start installed an update???

Grasping at straws, but what about listing the OS updates that have been applied over the last while? I will check your list against my 586 comp.

Settings is crashing so I need to find another way to check the build version. I tried to un-install the last update - but appears to be disallowed.

Typing winver in the Run box should give you your build version.

Working now - but we shall see if it lasts.

netcfg -d to reset networking. Initially did nothing (fairly early on).

After a few more guesses, I decided to run it again - and got a number of errors. Rebooted, and the OS would no longer find any networking available even though the NIC was in device manager and apparently working fine. This was unnerving for a bit since I could not figure out why the networking resources were totally gone.

After running netcfg -d again, the errors were different. Reboot. Run it again, and again. Reboot. All comes back - networking and network discovery are working as expected. So, essentially running netcfg - d many times seems to have put me back in business.

Still open questions (among many):
Why did this happen?
How to prevent it?
Why doesn't the 'Troubleshooter' detect a problem?
