Network discovery will not stay on and Function Discovery wont start

It appears that your issue is related to the "Service Control Manager". I found a reference to fixing this issue, it appears below:

"I would check the status of Services. Click on the Start buton and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate Computer Browser in the list and check that the StartUp type is Manual. Also note whether the Service has started. If it has not started right click and select Start. If it does not start you will need to check the Services which the Computer Browser service depends on. You can make changes to the StartUp type of any service by right clicking on the service in the list and selecting Properties. The StartUp options are on the General tab.


The next step is to check that the StartUp type is correct for the three services the Computer Browser service needs to start. They are Server -Automatic, Security Accounts Manager -Automatic and Workstation -Automatic. All these services should show as Started as they should start when the computer is booted. If the Start Up type of any is not set to Automatic then change it to Automatic and click on Apply and OK. Start the service."

The server, security accounts manager and workstation services are all there, correct and running with no errors.

However, the computer browser service is not present in my services.msc, even when I run in admin.

Any thoughts?

Well, you need that service which by default is set to start manually for Name resolution list generation. The service is dependent on the Server and Workstation services running as well. Each of those services are set default to start Automatically. Have a look in %WinDir%\System32\ for the browser.dll file. If you cannot find it there then you can try to reinstall it using the Windows 10 Install media.

That's odd, looks like it's not installed? Have you got Client for Microsoft Network ticked on your lan properties?

Yes...

Check your services and see if Server is running? Should be Automatic Start, if it is then
Have a look in regedit and see if this is there and if there is anything in it HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser

Services is on automatic and running fine.

There is nothing at that key location.

Make sure the SSDP discovery is enabled as well as UPNP Device Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication

Something else to check.
In Turn Windows Features on or Off, make sure there is a tick in smb 1.0/CIFS File sharing support.

I fixed the issue. I booted into safe mode with networking and ran "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" from an elevated command prompt. I rebooted into normal mode and things started working!
