This driver is used for two typical usage scenarios, each of which require at least two working (and connected) network adapters on a single PC. The first scenario is called adapter teaming, which means using two or more adapters at the same time, so that you can send and receive more packets than a single adapter could. The second scenario is called adapter failover/high availability, where a standby adapter takes over the network connection if the primary fails. If you only have one adapter on your PC hooked up (as I suspect is the case on your PC), or only one wired connection and one wireless connection, enabling this protocol will result in Windows disabling it automatically as soon as it figures out you can't team multiple adapters to work together on your PC.

PS: this capability was introduced with Windows Server 2012, and remains mostly a "server thing" to this day. I don't see or hear about it being used much, if at all, on the client side, including Windows 10 clients. I'm curious if other site members either use it themselves, or have seen it used, in that way. Why, if I may be so bold as to ask, did you seek to enable it?

I found it because I'm going crazy trying to get Windows 10 to allow me to use an ethernet connection. I have checked everything. The router works, the cable works. I've updated the driver automatically, i went back to the old one. I downloaded the latest from the site and installed that. I made sure power settings are not automatically turning off the ethernet card. Nothing has worked. I keep getting a message that the Ethernet cord is disconnected. The lights are not on at the port. I see a lot of others have this problem, but no fixes have worked for me yet.

    Any suggestions?
    TIA
