IPConfig /release and /renew throughout network

    Hi,

I apologise if this problem has been solved anywhere. I did do a search for it but there didn't seem to be any complete solutions as far as I could see.

Around a week ago, a colleague's computer would not connect to the internet (although was connected to the router) and would not allow other PCs to see or access the files on it. It would also not be able to see the default printer as being online, despite it functioning perfectly for everybody else (5 PCs access that printer).

I Googled it and found the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew instructions for command prompt - which worked. This had to be done on 3 consecutive days last week. This week that PC is functioning as usual, but 2 other PCs on the network have experienced the same problem.

We are quite a small company and so don't have an IT team, just myself as the youngest and most tech-savvy member of staff (by some distance!) However, I also spend approximately half of my week out of the office visiting customers, and can't expect my colleagues to confidently follow instructions even if I left some (though I did successfully talk one colleague through the process).

Does anybody know of a fool-proof one time fix for the network as a whole?

We are running Windows 10 Pro, and as far as I'm aware there was not a specific software update around the time the error began.

Separately, we have also managed to lose the Homegroup password! If anyone knows how to remove it entirely in order to create a new one that would be most helpful as I am hoping to have this as a backup to the normal network access.

    Hello David,

Assuming you are a small company (10-15 PC's), In my opinion it would be a good idea to add a static IP adress to all the computers and printers in the router web interface and let's see what happens from there on.

Also , for the home group password:

Navigate to the Network and Sharing centre and do the following:

    IPConfig /release and /renew throughout network-knipsel.png

Change your network type from Home to Public, and obviously back to Home again. A pop up should appear wich shows the home key code.
