Network drive not showing up (Samba)

Did you Try entering the IP address of the drive \\192.168.1.1\sda1\ into Windows Explorer to see if you can force a login prompt to show?.

Old thread but this happened to me this week and I think must be to an windows update resetting something but the following helped:

Here are a couple of settings that you need to check Program and Features/ Windows features SMB 1.0 select SMB 1.0 CIFC Client and select SMB 1.0 CIFC Server deselect select SMB 1.0 CIFC automatic removal.

In Services Homegroup listener and Provider, services need to be turned on Auto.

Thanks. Being unfamiliar with this matter and not being able to solve it, I gave up and actually already got rid of the drive.
To be honest: I did not give it a try with another external drive.
This was something falling within the category 'nice if it works', but if it doesn't, well, then the drive physically has to move between living room and my pc. Maybe I give it a try with another drive, one of these days.
BTW and FWIW... as for the settings, with me, they read SMB 1.0/CIFS (not CIFC)
Don't know whether it makes any difference though.

All of mine also show CIFS on SMB 1.0. I have 2 NAS drives connected via Ethernet cable to my 4-port Wireless Router [through an added 8-port Switch] and need SMB 1.0 selected.

after having done that totally reset router and re-boot every computer, tablet, mobile phone, smart TV and any other Internet connected thing -- even those "Hive" or remote home heating things if you have those.

On the LINUX / NAS SAMBA config files (in etc/samba) just ensure there's NO SMB level set anywhere.

Sometimes IP addresses just "stick" to a device you can't see from SAMBA or Windows Networking --OK not very technical but Windows Networking is even more mysterious to me than the Biblical "Holy Ghost". !! Usually there's often one rogue computer in the mix.

On reboot -- start with the Linux / NAS / Android devices - e,g TV's, phones, tablets, NAS servers, Linux machines before booting the Windows machines.

So what is next? Now that I can access my USB drives attached to my router, how do I get the router to show up again as an option under the 'Computer' heading in the Network windows?

As I said in post #15 above, my router only supports SMB1. The only way to get it to appear as a 'Computer' is to enable the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client in Windows Features.

I have enabled all the SMB features in Windows Features. Unfortunately it does not appear. Any other ideas? I have an ASUS RT-AC88U. Thank you for your help.

After latest windows updates add this line in the SAMBA Config file (usually in folder /etc/samba or similar on your NAS)

in the global section

[global]

max protocol = nt1
