UPDATE - Bloody great. Rebooted system since yesterday. PC is not showing in network neighbourhood. Appears all gone again.,
Why is this so flaky?
I understand there could be some user error. But never had this many problems setting up a network with win 98 setting manual IPs etc, Win10 should be more advanced in its simplicity.!
Im really stuck here please help.
Ran Lan.exe again now not getting anything just press any key as soon as run, alevated.
Tried the following:
sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled
Netsh winsock reset
Netsh int ip reset
Rebooted no change
Is anything here relevant ? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2696547

Update
By following the next post I got the windows10 pc showing up again in the network but not across the workgroup. But still no other devices from the pc and likewise the other devices cant see the system.
Can't see other computers in Workgroup on Windows 10 computer - Page 6 - Windows 10 Forums
I have logged on tot the router and all devices are set for an assigned IPLook for the following services in the list:
· DNS Client
· Function Discovery Provider Host
· Function Discovery Resource Publication
· Peer Networking Grouping
· HomeGroup Provider
· HomeGroup Listener
· SSDP Discovery
· UPnP Device Host
Make sure they are set to AUTOMATIC START instead of MANUAL.
Go down the list one by one and even if they are running do a mouse right click and SELECT "RESTART".
On the ones that are showing a blank and not running right click and SELECT "START".
That's all I did and all 3 Laptops are back in the Networking Panel and in the Homegroup WORKGROUP.
This PC 192.168.0.2
Media 192.168.0.3
All showing up fine each device.
Workgroup on both devices are set to the same name "workgroup"
The other device (media player) is samba and on.
Sharing private with discovery on the pc (as in original post).
Still no further. Help please.

Tried the following from
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...nection-issues
To run these networking commands in a command prompt window
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
- At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
- Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
- Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Yay streaming from all connected units xUse network reset to reinstall network devices
Using network reset should be the last step you try. Consider using it if the steps above don’t help to get you connected.
This can help solve connection problems you might have after upgrading from a previous version of Windows to Windows 10, as well as fix problems where you can connect to the Internet, but not to shared network drives. It removes any network adapters you have installed and the settings for them. After your PC restarts, any network adapters are reinstalled, and the settings for them are set to the defaults.
Note
To use network reset, your PC must be running Windows 10 Version 1607. To see what version of Windows 10 your device is currently running, select the Start button, then select Settings > System > About.
- Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
- On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.Wait for your PC to restart and see if that fixes the problem.
Just follow the white glove to Network reset and just reboot.
All this after a straight forward fresh install.
As a footnote I still believe there is somethign quirky and dogy with network adapters and Windows 10. The initial reason for the install was all of a sudden my system said no network cables connected to lan card. After fresh install from scratch smae issue, spent time with Microsoft online. No resolve and magically fixed itself during the ms chat with the tech bod whilst they were trying to sign me up to Microsoft Remote support. Have to laugh sometimes!
A quick report in. Several days later, normal usage, reboots and so on, everything is still working as expected.
So happy! So simple.
