Windows 10 Network Sharing. Files etc

    Hi

Fresh installed Windows10Pro including the latest anniversary update etc, the reason for the reinstall was due to updates not working and the fresh install passed this.,

Prior to install I had network sharing working fine. MY PC and other devices ie Media Player Box on the TV (Med8er 1000XD) all worked fine. Had sharing hard drives and so on. No issue.

Now I am unable to see either my pc or the other devices in the network.

They show up in the homegroup and the devices see each other, but file playback is not working. I know previously with networking this was not issue.

On the media player theres a menu function to go to Network devices. Workgroup show up and the media player shows but not the pc.

ON the PC neither the PC or the Media player show up as they previously did as network coputers.

The problem is on the network neither this pc or the other device show up.

So I know the PC and the media device can see each other over the network.

I use ESET Security v9. and both file and printer sharing and other options are active as before the reinstall.

What am I missing. The only common denominator of change is the reinstall and the anniversary update.

Both devices are set to the default WORKGROUP.
SAMBA is on the media player as before.
Nothing has changes apart from the reinstall.
File and printer sharing all on
    Any help greatly appreciated.

To save you going through the whole thread and save time this is the straight forward fix that worked for me and I trust this saves anyone in the same situation and frustration, a lot of time!

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...nection-issues

Use network reset to reinstall network devices

Using network reset should be the last step you try. Consider using it if the steps above don’t help to get you connected.
This can help solve connection problems you might have after upgrading from a previous version of Windows to Windows 10, as well as fix problems where you can connect to the Internet, but not to shared network drives. It removes any network adapters you have installed and the settings for them. After your PC restarts, any network adapters are reinstalled, and the settings for them are set to the defaults.
    Note
To use network reset, your PC must be running Windows 10 Version 1607. To see what version of Windows 10 your device is currently running, select the Start button, then select Settings > System > About.

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
    • On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.Wait for your PC to restart and see if that fixes the problem.

I hope it's as easy for you as it was finally for me.

You do not need to do anything in the Command window. The problem that you are getting is one that has been known since AU/Redstone 1 was pushed out. It is a very common issue due to Microsoft tightening Windows 10 security policies to protect the OS from the users bad habits.

Was the Homegroup initially set up on the machine you've now done a clean install on? If so you may need to create the Homegroup again from scratch and get all the other machines to join the recreated Homegroup. It's for reasons like this that I prefer to use Workgroup networking.

Hi Homegroup was manually setup now deleted.
I've reset the router and the pc is now showing up in network as expected. The media player is not, but does show up as a media device.
Also on the media device, the media player shows up and the pc is not showing up on the workgroup.
So each device displays itself on its network location but neither is seeing or accessing each other
I do not want to use the home group function only the workgroup network.
Ive logged on to the router and can the devices have the same ip assignment ie 192.168.0.24 for PC and 192.168.0.19 for the media player. These are auto assigned. Although I did try and set the PC to 192.168.0.1, then rebooted the router, pc and media player. This is the point the network showed up with the PC finally showing in the network.
Logged back onto the router and the IPs for the pc and the media player had reverted to 192.168.0.24 for pc and media player 192.168.0.19. The router is naturally 192.168.0.1.
