    Hi there

    @Mystere

I think any ISP will have a tool which shows how much you've used for the current month -- could be wrong - don't know about comcast but I'm sure if there's a cap / monthly allowance they should provide a tool to let you check how much you've used and also warn you say when you've used 80% or so of your limit.

I also agree typical users won't use 1 TB monthly at the moment - but remember with services like Amazon Prime, Netflix etc offering more streaming programs in full 4K UHD and some even in 8K UHD a 1TB limit can seem quite stingy in the future.

A typical 1 Hr Video in 4K UHD probably uses around 7 - 8 GB per hour on Netflix - and much more on 8K UHD.
So 100 Hrs of 4kUHD TV per month would swallow up your bandwidth --- remember also while 100 hrs of TV a month might seem idiotic to some -- a lot of households have more than 1 person viewing Netflix so you could find the 1TB swallowed up very quickly.

In these days of streaming ISP's really should get away from capped bandwidth amounts as demand for higher amounts will increase probably exponentially. 5G should help as well .

    Cheers

    .

First : I think this post was about real time bandwidth monitoring
Second: Bandwith USAGE is another kettle of fish and was introduced by Mystere

Jimbo, I do agree with you about Usage Cap. Here in Italy Cap disappeared years ago on land,
and it will disappear soon on Mobile network.
Some mobile offers are already unlimited for a low monthly fee, (I have one of this),
while other ranges from 10G 50G 100G 200G. Two years ago max offer was 4G (monthly speaking).

I never used much on Mobile and on Land connections,
the change in my use of internet.... started last year:
    WhatsApp and video contents.

    On Land:
I discovered that a lot of tech contents are now in video format instead of written.
And almost whatever you thing of DYI is on video

That's for now, and may be, I will use some for movies as well in the future.
That is around 3-7G per day.
(Speed reduced to 10% when over 30G on my previous ISP - changed it .. now no Cap at all)

    On Mobile:
WhatsApp's Videocall for me are around 4 hours per day.... that means 40G per month!!

    Hi there

we don't either -- in any case population too small here to worry about Bandwidth etc (approx 300,00 total for whole country) - however I think USA people still seem to get bad deals on Broadband and mobiles which is surprising since there in theory should be more competition and they do drive a lot of innovation.

I suppose everything is Business model.
When a population accept and get used to pay on the kilo (on the pound?)
it's easier to force them to pay per Gigabyte.

That never worked in Italy, what you have to pay for .. People just don't use it or refrain to use or to get it.

If big conglomerate want this Italian people's money is just to offer them something that seems "free"

    New operator "Iliad" offer:
unlimited phone calls, SMS and 50G for 7€ 30 days
(with no tie - pay 1 month only when you need to use it)
