    Problem wit Internet Icon

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 running Windows 10 version 1511 OS build 10586.545 running Intel I5-2520m with 8 gig memory. The Internet connection Icon shows no internet connection and also if I hover over it it shows my cable modem but says"no internet connection" and I'm connected to my D-Link switch via cat 7 cable. The problem is I do have internet connection because I can launch my browser and have no problems going wherever. I've checked Device manager and no problems there. I have no idea what's going on. Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Hi...

Try this... Go to Services and give a "Network Location Awareness" a restart.

So I tried the restart, that didn't work. So I then got into my modem and checked DHCP. Found that my laptop is connected by checking mac address of the laptop and which is shown in the DHCP dialog on my desktop, their both the same. I decided to delete the DHCP address for the laptop to see what would happen. I disconnected my laptop and deleted the DHCP address on my desktop. I restarted my desktop, not that that would have any affect on anything just a habit. I then connected the laptop and then rechecked the DHCP, same mac address and same ipv4 address as on my laptop and same goes for the subnetmask and the default gateway. Everything is working as it should except for that darn Internet access on my laptop, still says no internet access with the old yellow triangle with the exclamation point. I even plugged the laptop directly to my modem and still get the same thing. Could it have something to do with the update to Windows? I have no ideaa.

You are not going to believe what just happened. I disconnected my ethernet from my laptop and went wifi. Had no problems. I then shut off the wifi and went back to ethernet and now everything is fine. I don't get it. Unless for some reason the wifi was stuck somehow or whatever the case may be. All I know is that everything is working fine and as lon as that happens I'm a happy camper!

I spoke to soon. The problem still persists. If I turn WIFI on, it sees my modem and works fine however if I turn it off and plug in my Ethernet cable I have internet access but if you hover over the icon it say's that I do not have internet access plus the little "!" on the icon. I've checked my modem and it sees the computer and I do have internet access. Really weird.

You may try to change the ethernet MAC address.

If it's a bug, you can hide the yellow exclamation triangle (notification) from appearing. Familiar with registry? Try this:

    1. Navigate to:
      Code:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Network Connections
    2. Create a new DWORD of:
      Code:
      NC_DoNotShowLocalOnlyIcon
    3. Set it to:
      Code:
      1
