windows 10 can't change wifi network from public to private

My wifi network is public and i cant seem to get to the options to make it private. When I go to network/internet wifi i don't get the option to manage known networks. I can get to manage known networks another way but on the wifi network i want to change from public to private, i don't have a properties button to select. i can forget the network but when i reconnect, it doesn't allow me to say whether it is public or private. do i need to change policy settings, uac or something to get the buttons to appear. And I don't want to use home group. Been using shares fro 20 years and don't need all the fluff of home groups. Thanks

    Hello Bruce, :)

You should be able to use one of the other options in the tutorial to change your network location to private.

You don't say if you are using dhcp or a static network address. I had problems when using static ip-address that the gateway setting dissapeared although I had it filled in and then closing the wifi settings. If the gateway address is empty it made me only connect to a public network. So, be shure that you have filled in the gateway address. It should have the same address as your router (192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 and so on...)
