None of these suggestions works. Still can't access "Manage your credentials." I also tried this with a different account. Same Error 5. I'm at a loss.

The sad thing is that Credential Manager is still tied to Internet Explorer, along with tied to Edge, which is taking the place of IE. The good thing is that you should hopefully be able to fix with this info. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/creden...orking-windows

Open up Services in Administration tools and see if the Credential Manager service is running and on automatic. If stopped, set it to Manual, then try to start it. It will say "Vault Manager" when you open that service up. You are still in that service as you will see in the title of the window.

You can also try this fix: 1. Make sure you’re enabled hidden items in File Explorer. Press + R and type following location in Run:C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect*Substitute C: with your system root drive and <USERNAME> with user profile name

Thanks, bro67. I tried the suggestions to no avail.

I don't understand this suggestion or the syntax. Color? What does that to do with starting credentials manager?

    Thanks.

The color is just to make it stand out. If the clearing of that directory does not work. You may have to do a Repair of thr OS, to see if it fixes the issue.

Usually flushing the folder and turning off the Service, then back on and reboot helps. But you still end up with the stored profile can cause issues when your computer calls for them when you log in with a Live profile.

Try switching to a local profile after turning off all of the switches in Settings Profile for updating the cloud servers. That may fix it.

Still not working. I downloaded the iso file and put it on a DVD. I think it's time for reinstallation.

I tried the reinstallation, but the problem persists.

I'd like to reset Windows 10 to its original state when I upgraded from Windows 7 last summer. Which reset option would I use to do that?

You have to disable your Live profile before you do the repair. Otherwise it will just keep installing the messed up Roaming Profile on Microsoft's servers.

I apologize for being thick about this, but how do I disable my live profile?

So I disable the live profile and then try the repair installation again?

Problem solved. I'm embarrassed I didn't see this simple solution before, but for the benefit of others, here's the solution: Go to Advanced Sharing Settings > All Networks, and Turn off password protected sharing.
