You may have to do some deeper troubleshooting at this point, by looking for any programs that may be wanting the adapter before it is awake and connected.

As I said before I don't have any connectivity problems at all! It is simply that I don't have the "connect" button on clicking the network icon is system tray. When I click on this icon, I get my service provider's name "YOU Broadband". No "connect" button. In Windows 8 there used to be a "connect" button with it and clicking it would connect immediately. In Windows 10, I have to click on the "YOU Broadband" option and it opens the Dial-up tab/PPPoE in Control panel and I find YOU Broadband listed there and then find the Connect button there and I have to click on that and connection is immediately made. No issue. So I don't think there is any adapter issue. To disconnect, I have to go through all these steps again!. It is frustrating. Why did Windows 10 have to make this complicated instead of simplifying it?

Or can someone suggest if I can make a shortcut with connect button which doesn't make me go through so many clicks?

It's not Windows 10, I can't seem to get any of my available networks to not show the connect button, that being said is it the same in the settings app?

Is there no connect button there as well? The reason I ask is you wanted a shortcut, and we have a shortcut to that part of the settings,

i went through the links. But sorry to say it doesn't answer my question. I am using a desktop PC and I don't have any WiFi device in the vicinity. So the WiFi thing doesn't show up on PC in settings too. Hence can't use what you suggested.

Where IS the 'connect ' button? I will seriously have to think going back to Windows 8 if I don't find it eventually! (This last sentence is not directed at anyone in particular but only expresses my frustration )

I thought this whole exercise was to connect to a wireless connection, looking back at post number 3, I think I see where the confusion began. You mention wireless router and then mention connecting to broadband.

What does the wireless connection do if it is not in the vicinity of this desktop? Are you just trying to connect and disconnect an Ethernet (Wired) connection?

So for just showing what I mean, This is the pop up that appears when I click on the network icon in the system tray:

As you can see there is NO button. (Ignore the Unidentified network since that doesn't concern me at the moment - it was the same in Windows 8 too). Now when I click on the highlighted "YOU Broadband" area, since there is no button there that's the only option to click, the following settings window opens up:

Name:	NetworkSettingsWindow.PNG

Now here is where I find the buttons for Connect/Disconnect. Why it should be mandatory to go to Settings everytime I want to connect or disconnect from the internet?

I hope I make myself a bit clearer now.

Yes, that does clear up that there is no wireless involved, it appears you have that set as dial up, I don't know anything about that myself.

Not sure what connect button you were used to seeing but I found this that may help, it has an option to switch the flyout to the old 8.1 version,

It's a registry thing so it may not be something you are comfortable with, other than that I don't know what else to suggest, I'm sure someone has something.

Not sure why you mentioned wireless earlier though, that was confusing.

    @derekimo

The registry editing did help partly. Now I get the Windows 8 style flyout but there is still no "connect" button, although when connected I do find a "Disconnect" button. Weird.

Thanks, at least I made some progress. Now if someone can get me to bring the "connect" button.

Thanks a ton! The solution you suggested with the registry finally worked. I said it worked partly yesterday but after a restart to my surprise I saw it worked exactly like it did in windows 8. Connect button working.

    Thanks again.

Awesome! Glad you got it sorted. Funny how a restart fixes things.

    You're very welcome.
