I'm going to try to revive this. I STILL have not solved this problem. I have narrowed it down to my surface sp4. Every other computer on the network can see each other and see the sp4. The sp4, however, can only access shares via ip address and not name.
If you see above, I've tried all the tricks. All of the command lines and other network trickery that I know.
Has anyone figured this out?
No idea, whether it applies to you. I had problems with access to shared folders between two W10 PC's. Both PC's work with administrator account. Defining an extra user with username and password, only for access by the other PC, immediately solved the issue. My conclusion: W10 takes some extra precautions for accessing PC's on the administrator level.
I don't think that's the right solution. I have three W10 machines on he network. Two of them can see and access each other fine. Those two can also see and access my sp4 fine. My sp4 can also see them both but can only access via ip. A new user does not seem to fit this scenario.
It should also be noted that two of the machines, including the sp4, have the same exact msft account and are both admins on their respective machines. One of the machines, not the sp4, also has multiple users and all of the above symptoms persist.
This seems like something very specific to and deeply buried in my sp4.
Thoughts?
For what it is worth I eventually resolved this with two system restores... but now I live in fear that windows is going to update itself to $%#&&^*
Something that has helped me share in Win 10 is to have the same user name and password on all PCs. I have 4 desktops and one lap top and I'm able to see all shared folders from all machines. If I change one user name/password then I have problems.
