Thats the speed copying a file from the NAS. Copying to the NAS got around 80MB/s. It's certainly better than it was at 20MB/s.
I have the WD My Cloud Mirror 6Tb NAS which has gigabit port.

Well honestly I think those speeds are excellent and there is not much else you can do. I think you have a good quality NAS to provide those rates. Someone else may disagree but from my limited knowledge you've got a pretty good setup there
My NAS drives are much lower quality than yours, 1 TB models (My Book Live and Iomega HMNHD) so it's not surprising your speeds are double
Hi there.
I still think you should be able to get better than that although 80 Mb/s is obviously acceptable compared with the 20 you were getting.
over my Wifi network using the WIFI Bridge method getting decent speeds -- from external USB 3 HDD on a laptop to the NAS.
NAS as I posted before has 2 X 8TB RAID 0 arrays ( 4 X 4 TB physical WD HDD's -- with decent Cache enabled on the RAID controller).
Cheers

I think your speeds are superb too Jimbo. I do truly believe the quality of NAS is a major factor. It's not the same model exactly but here is a thread with people sharing speeds using my book duo and typically write speeds vary between 35 - 50 megabytes per sec, okay it's old but it's just a quick example I found. That's similar equipment to what I have. So in both your cases your well above average. To be at 75-95% of the theoretical max of gigabit Ethernet seems to be pretty outstanding, at least from my viewpoint.

Had I had the money at the time I would have probably gone for a Qnap or Synology NAS but they don't typically include HDs with them whereas the WD one did.
Yeah that is where those types are frustrating and of course it gets real expensive. I just wanted a turnkey solution for my NAS which is why I just got the ones I did a few years back but they serve me well and are plenty fast enough. I think with the changes you have made to get upto 65-80 MB/s you have a good setup. That's 1 gig in about 15 seconds which is a rapid rate
Thanks for the encouragement. The test will come on Monday when my scheduled backup will start.
No problem, guess you'll find out then. Another reason I know the NAS drives are the bottleneck on my setup is because I tested transferring a large file directly between my two laptops a while back. Both over Ethernet and the speed was around the 100 megabytes per sec mark. And they were both on the same switch as the NAS drives at the time.
Things sure got confusing in this thread with some stating MB/s while others were using Mb/s. Faster is always better but as Scottyboy99 stated, your speeds are fine. If you haven't rebooted your NAS in awhile, you might give that a try.
Agreed, the difference between capital B and lower case b is important and even those writing articles for pay don't always get the distinction correct. For years B has meant Bytes and b has meant bits and there are 8 bits in a Byte. Or we could go further back to octal. Number Bases: Octal and Hexadecimal
