Good idea by quarkrad to have a consolidated thread.

The majority of people having problems, is that either their network adapters are not compatible with the Windows 10. Or their signal quality is not that great.

Not quite that simple. There also have been issues with ethernet connections when other systems running another OS do not have problems.

I posted the above in a separate thread. As I recall, there were no or extremely few networking/limited internet issues with previous Windows upgrades. (Win7, Win8). Bottom line, Win10 has networking/limited internet issues as Tairiku states below.

Well there is one common problem with wifi, it is called Windows 10, it is hard to fix, on 10 anyway

torre actually solving Network adapter problems are easy. As for the Windows 10 problem. 99.99% of them are related to 3rd party Internet Security and outdated Chipsets. The last would be the machine was infected before the upgrade happened. But the user kept ignoring the problems.

I have never had any issues with thr two laptops that ran Windows 10 for a short period, along with a Dell Inspiron 537s Desktop.

People are making the little hiccups they run into, as if it is the end of the world.

The Farbar tools will fix Network adapter issues, as long as your machine is not infected with Malware.

Interesting ! I will check Farbar if I return to Win10.

Due to continuing limited internet issues after trying multiple methods as mentioned in this forum, I returned to 8.1. Don't think malware related as I did a clean install on a formated drive and multiple scans after. Toshiba laptop (L855S, 3 yrs old) is now working like a champ.

Windows usually becomes somewhat usable after the first service pack.
Unfortunately 10 is so messed up, that even SP1 did not help much.
Surprisingly alfa/beta versions worked like a charm, unlike RTM.

Completely agree. Both my laptops occasionally get the "missing protocols" error. Usually simply rebooting fixes it but nothing I've found yet completely fixes it - even clean install only works for a while.

I would say though for the last couple of weeks it happens much less often than in early December. Perhaps there has been a (partial) fix but as MS don't say what Windows update patches do we can only guess.

The problem never happened before 1511 release at all - on 10240 or any of the prior insider preview builds.

I've just trashed my laptop and rebuilt it with win7 - not changed router or anything. Wifi works like a charm - this tells me there is nothing wrong with my laptop. So .... as wifi does not work when I install win10 where does the problem lie?

Is it possible to find out what is happening to this issue(?) - my guess somebody at Microsoft owns this fix, I'm not sure where to go to get the latest info.

Does seem like Microsoft would mention the issue. Below note was posted with the latest Insider Build which indicates they are aware of a problem. However, driver does not seem to be the answer.

    • While attempting to update to this build, your PC may show a message that your wireless card is not compatible with Windows 10. The workaround is to visit the support page for your PC or wireless card and install the newest driver that is available.
