8.1.0.31 is still the current firmware for that modem.

Post the error log. As long as you do not go way below -5db to +5db for Downstream or over 52db for Upstream, it should be safe.

There is no perfect formula, because it all depends on the load on the node.

That link that you gave is not something I would go by. The idiot talking about getting rid of the old Docsis 2.0 modems soes not have a clue.

No modem steals more bandwidth from another. It is about the load that is placed on the node.

It is like those who complain about too many people tuned into a certain program, is why their box reboots.

So do you see anything wrong with the signals I'm showing? And here is the log of the modem

I dont really know much about modems so if you see something just let me know. I looked at your link and everything seemed to be in the range that was "recommended"

The T4 is of concern. Usually happens when the modem loses connection to the CMTS.

Connect to the EMT for the phone and check its power levels and for any errors.

Both modems should match for Signal levels and any errors.

You just need to connect to the phone modem with an Ethernet cable to the LAN jack on the back.

I cant even connect to the phone modem. I brought down my laptop since it would be easier, plugged a Ethernet cable into it and just got the cable modem. I then disconnected myself from the wifi and just reconnected the cable but it wont open the page. Its a Arris modem and I cant connect to it with the ip 192.168.100.1

The Arris should be 192.168.0.1 to access the Settings & Status. If it asks for the username, it should be "admin", password should be "password". 192.168.100.1 is for the Event Log & Connection Status. You may have to shut down and reboot to get it to grab the EMTA IP. Just make sure that your WiFi is disabled and that you do not have a Static IP for the IPv4 IP.

Well I just tried it with the new IP address and it didn't connect. WiFi off, restarted pc tried again nothing. Tried the other one I was using and nothing. I just can't connect to it. Only thing I didn't do is reset modem since it was in use. Might try it tomorrow though

Then they have blocked access to it. I would put in a ticket for bad service. Make sure that both modems are offline when you call to put in the ticket. That way their tests fail. If they persist on sending you a modem, keep requesting that you want an onsite tech visit.

Also make sure that the splitter they used has -3.5db taps for the output for both modems, no loose connections or poor termination of the connectors.

Alright, well I checked the splitters and and they both say -3.5db on them. So like you said I should probably call them and have them come out and check everything but I'm not really in position to do that. I'm a college student living at home and my parents don't really experience anything bad with the internet. The only thing that they notice as well as I is that when it rains outside are internet and cable get far worse. We have had people out and looked at the line outside before. The one time people were going to come out and look they said that there were outages in the area and if we experience more problems call again. We got a guy to come out anyways and he just said we had outdated equipment and installed new hardware.

Thing is I feel like I'm the only one that get the random drops while on Skype and gaming. This happens regardless of what the weather is outside, and you never know when its going to happen. I just don't know why its just me that gets dropped and now one else. This could be my hardware(Killer E2200) or router kicking just me off even though I'm connected to LAN? But since it doesn't kick anyone else off cant really be modem or anything else (which we checked and everything looks fine to me at least other then the phone modem). When it rains outside most the time we can all feel that its slow, and by the time people come out it would be working fine. Cable gets pixelated and lags a lot when it rains.
