Thanks for the help, guys. My WD My Book Live could not be accessed. A Vista machine was fine but not this 9926 one.

Tried the FW block of port 139 to no avail. Instant success after making the registry mod.

Now I expect my backups to resume!

This "share" issue is hit or miss.
I did another clean install last night when the Action Center stopped working. Then cloned it to an SSD to keep the original installation in HDD as a backup.

The cloned SSD is having the same share issue as stated above.
Then I fired up the original installation on HDD and it was fine. It immediately connects with other PCs.
So I re-cloned again the HDD and wiped out the same SSD. Everything is fine after re-cloning. Sharing is okay.

    This fixed the issue:

Using REGEDIT it's necessary to create a DWORD value called 'AllowInsecureGuestAuth' in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters and set this new value to 1.

    Thanks gmc. :)

    Additional
Other machines no longer appear in Network (File Explorer) but at least I can access them using their IP addresses now.

    Shared Files

Recently installed the Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Evaluation copy, Build 9926 from using Windows 8.1 Pro. I am having difficulties getting my home network to appear on any of my computers and or Smart TV's. Have "dropped" my windows firewall *W-10) and Windows Defender and still can not visually see them on anything other than my server computer. I am able to access my network printers via the server; however, cannot see any videos, pictures, documents, etc. on any of the other computers via my network. Have double checked my AT & T Uverse wireless router and performed resets; however, still having the same problem. Not sure if it is because of the Windows 10 preview software not perfecting any network that is installed on it or not; however, I thought I would post it to see if anyone else is having difficulty with the same thing. Prior to installing Windows 10 was not having any difficulty what so ever with the network, so it is probably due to the new software that I upgraded to. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know if it will help you much but I have U-verse at the center of my home network and everything works after the registry change in this thread. After installing build 9926 I changed the workgroup name to match my other computers and the computer name. I also changed parameters in Network and Sharing Center. If you use homegroup you will need to adjust that in your new install. I don't use homegroup so I left the homegroup that was automatically assigned during the installation. I use user accounts and passwords instead of the homegroup.

Thanks for this. I was having the same problem trying to access a Netgear ReadyNas via a VPN.

Just upgraded to the latest build and find I can no longer connect to any samba shares. It worked fine on the previous build.

Seems to be a common problem - anyone found a solution yet?

The solution (without registry tweaks) appears to be to set up a password-protected user account on the network device containing your shares and then enter those account details (name and password) as a Windows Credential in the Windows 10 credential manager (which can be accessed through Control Panel). This works for Windows shares as well as samba

Thank you, Elizabeth, just removed my regedit and added the credential as advised and it works fine. Certainly a more elegant solution and, no doubt, how it is supposed to be done.

Must remember this for the future!!
