But how do I fix the gateway issue? I don't know what software I need to reinstall because I have two different adapters with different drivers but I don't even understand the route of the problem

Since you have 2 network adapters try this, select the current adapter that is not working and select Disable. Now select the other adapter and enable it. Does this work or do you still have the same issue?
Same issue, I've heard that maybe a USB adapter could be a work around? Or will the default gateway issue still mess this up?
Since you are having the same issue with both adapters I would reinstall the software that controls the power line adapters you mentioned in your first post.
Ok, in that case start unplug them from the outlets, wait a few minutes and then plug them back in. That should start some sort of renegotiation process with your internet source. If that proves successful than you are good to go.
Well I lugged my desktop upstairs to the router and plugged it in directly and ethernet worked fine so looks like the issue is just with the powerline network in some way, which I can probably figure out soon. I'll mark this as solved and thank you for the help and suggestions!
This is an alternative solution i found helpful on youtube, it solved my internet problems in an instant
