Unidentified Network Issue, even a refresh of windows 10 did not fix

Hello, I have a desktop computer that I usually connect through ethernet to my home network using a d-link powerline adapter. The other night it just randomly stopped working, and had been working all day previously. I have been looking for a fix for two days now and have achieved nothing. I reset the resetlog.txt using command prompt, I have assured that my adapter is configured to automatically assign an IP address, I have used a restore point to return my computer to a time when the internet was working, and I have also refreshed Windows 10, currently on build 10586.36) and none of this has fixed my issue. I have an external wireless antenna that works fine and I get wifi through it without a problem. As I'm sure you have already guessed, I am not the most technically proficient person but I feel that I have exhausted all available resources to try to fix my problem, so I come here asking for help.

If you attempt to troubleshoot the connection, what error do you get?

What I don't see in the list for Ethernet Adapter is the IP numbers for the Default Gateway, usually required.

Sorry please excuse my ignorance, where would I normally see these values and what does it mean that they are missing?

I've gotten the required settings back by reinstalling the software for the Ethernet Adapter which usually comes on a disc with a computer or motherboard.

I will have to see if that disk is still around. I had my computer built by a someone else. Is it just a driver? Or something else? Why would this change happen suddenly?

You could attempt a repair using Windows Diagnose the Adapter tool. Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter settings. Select your network adapter and click on Diagnose this connection. This should locate the missing protocols and repair the connection.

Yeah I tried that early on and it did nothing for me. Could it be a hardware malfunction of some sort? Why is there no default gateway?

It very well could be a hardware issue. Could be your adapter has gone south but I doubt that. Once you get your adapter issue fixed the default gateway will be automatically discovered so not much to worry about there.
