No/Intermittent connection: missing proxies or unable to detect proxy
Hello, posting 2 threads in 1 day feels great...
Recently my internet on my desktop has been extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY slow, and lately has been cutting out altogether, even thought it says it is connected all the time. Diagnostics reveal "one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer" or "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings". I've trawled so many threads and tried so many different things but nothing is helping. I am writing this post from my laptop which is immediately next to my desktop and has no problem connecting; neither does my phone, and no one else in the house is experiencing issues, so I am positive it's an internal issue with my desktop.
I connect via a cable through one of those plug socket internet devices but I also have a wifi adapter - no matter which I use I have the exact same problem so I am sure it's not a fault with these items nor their drivers.
I thought this issue may have coincided with me installing Avast, which I uninstalled today, and it helped for a bit but it's gone back to its usual self. I am unable to do system restore because I didn't know that system protection had been turned off until today (so I have no points to restore to) and honestly refuse to reinstall windows, there must be a way to fix this without having to do that!!
Any help will be sincerely appreciated!! Thanks! Save me!!
Edit: it's truly intermittent. for most of yesterday my internet was totally normal and then it stopped working again like the flick of a switch...
edit: there is truly no correlation or immediate obvious cause to this. it doesn't happen when i do anything in particular, it doesn't happen at any particular time of day, it doesn't seem to happen for any reason at all. restarting, reinstalling drivers, disabling and enabling, rebooting the router, nothing makes any difference...i'm so exasperated
