Simple Workaraound for "One or more network protocols...."

Create a text file on the desktop and call it "mend internet.bat"
Put the following text in it:

    netsh int ipv4 install

When the internet stops working - point to the bat file, press right mouse key and select "Run as administrator"
You may get a warning "Do you want ths App to make changes to your PC". Select Yes.

I find this works and there is no need to restart the computer.

Yes - it's crude but it seems to work.

Hi, I had the same problem as the OP on my Windows 10 machine. Here's how I resolved it -
    1) Go to Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections tab -> LAN Settings ->
    a) Uncheck the Use Proxy settings checkbox
    b) Check the Automatically detect settings checkbox

And my internet was back to normal!. Hope this helps someone. :)

I've run into the same issue on my ThinkPad T450s, running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (build 10586). I've had this issue a few times in the past, although I can't remember how I fixed it. Whenever my ThinkPad has had networking issues in Windows, it has always been an inability to connect to shares on my desktop PC, which I also use as a NAS server (which is also running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - build 10586). The ThinkPad can connect to other devices on the LAN, as well as the Internet fine, strangely.

Like a lot of you, I ran the Windows troubleshooter and ran into the "one or more network protocols are missing from your computer", yet when I check the settings for both the wireless and wired NICs, both have IPv4 and IPv6 stacks listed as available and ticked/enabled, so I don't understand what's going on.

The issue reappeared after I had reset my router to factory defaults in order to troubleshoot an issue with my Internet connection at the time. My router's settings are very similar to what I was using before the reset, the only difference being that I switched the private IP addresses from 10.0.0.x to 172.16.0.x.

So guys I have quite a different problem!

On wifi, my desktop works just fine! As soon as I connect it to LAN, the internet stops working (it has always worked before). When I do the network diagnosis, I get the famous message: "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer".

I have tried all the options about disabling netbios, reseting netsh winsock and netsh int ip. but no luck! No change! I even tried and uninstalled my AVG free (antivirus) but no change!

Again...I have to stress wifi works just fine and when I connect my laptop to LAN, everything is normal.

I would be very thankful if I got help cause I really don't know what to do.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards.

"Elementary Watson", as Sherlock Holmes would have said. If the internet works fine in one device and doesn't work on the other, then either the device is faulty (unlikely) or the device driver is not working properly. Use Aia64 utility to find out exactly which Ethernet device you have and then go to motherboard's support site and get latest official (not Microsoft) driver. It doesn't need to be specifically for Windows 10. Anything from Vista to 10 should work (the newer the better). Try that driver. If this doesn't work, you may visit the Ethernet device's manufacturer site directly (Atheros, Broadcom, whatever) and get latest driver for the device. Make sure you get the driver for your exact model. A driver for a similar model may seem working but not connect to the internet. So use Aida64 to see the exact model. Then use the show/hide tool (mentioned in earlier posts of this thread) to hide and block any relevant updates, so your working driver won't be replaced next update.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

But suddenly one day, this problem occurred. Before that, it was working fine.

However, I followed your instructions, I downloaded the latest driver. When I tried manually to find the file on my desktop, I got this message:

"Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."

and that's it! So no installation!

When I look at the device manager, everything looks fine with the network adapter (NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller).

I have now really tried everything there is to try but nothing seems to work! I wonder if my desktop has gotten a virus or something. Although I have AVG installed.

    Hello!
This is normal, if the downloaded official driver is earlier in version than Microsoft's latest driver. You can force an older driver though Device Manager (search for device to find it). Expand the network adapters, right-click on your adapter, Update driver software. Don't let Windows continue automatically, instead select the last option. Then again the last option. You should see a "Have disk" button. Click that and browse to the folder where you extracted the official driver. Select the first device from the list and proceed. This will replace latest Microsoft driver with latest official driver. Use show/hide tool to prevent Windows Update restoring the latest Microsoft driver again. Restart for the changes to take effect. That's it!

All that I've encountered with this issue all had the same fix.....
Go to the Internet connection icon in the right lower corner of the task bar> right click and select "open network and sharing center"> under "active networks" click on the blue link beside "connections" > click on wireless properties> click on security tab> click on advanced settings> check the box beside "enable FIPS compliance for this network"

    I have the following situation.
Installed Windows 10 (64bit) on February 2016 and all worked smoothly. About a month ago, my desktop would connect to Internet for a while, then DSL would unsync and not resync even after shutting off the desktop and powering the router off and on several times.
However my laptop (Windows Vista) connects just fine (Ethernet cable connection). This means (I guess) that ISP and router are OK and the problem is on the desktop.
What baffles me is that the connection works for some time before unsyncing and that it takes more than an hour to resync even though the desktop is powered off

See spapakons post above (#218). Update your drivers. In fact, some have found that an older driver is best.
