Network Protocols

Some times the router block (overheating?) and refuses access to wireless devices. Switch it off, wait 5-10 minutes to cool down and then switch it on again. It should work. Check its ventilation slits for dust. It is not a bad idea to remove the cover and blow some air from an air spray or blower device.

Never had any issues with overheating before. This is a new router I had delivered this month.

I have tried the following fix as mentioned in a previous post regarding the network protocol missing error

1. Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network Connections
2. Right click the adapter and select Properties
3. Highlight IP v4 (TCP/IP) and select Properties
4. Select Advanced
5. Select WINS tab, tick Disable, and select OK all the way out

I tried this last night so will need to leave it a few days maybe to test and see what happens.

I don't know if that helps, but my settings on the WINS tab are:

Enable LMHOSTS lookup -> box clear (disabled)
Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP selected

IP and DNS are both in auto (DHCP). If you have anything different, try changing it and see if it fixes your issue.

I will have a look and check the settings. If it is different I will leave what I have done for now and see what results I get back. If I get an issue and my settings are different I will change. Not long had a fresh install done so not really wanting to do that again

This working for me thank you very much, after reboot I disable and enable again the network two times before working fine. Ty.

I am facing those issues ONLY with one type of hardware on my company. DELL Precision T1700 with SSD disks.
I have other Older models from DELL as well as from LENOVO, upgrade works just fine with them. Issue happens only with DELL Precision T1700.

My Solution was:

1)Go to a healthy windows 7 and export (WinSock and WinSock2) Keys to a flashdrive (USB), you will need them to import to the Broken windows 10 machine

Those are the keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2




2) ON the Windows 10, Uninstall Current Network driver from Device Manager (devmgmt.msc). In addition to that, uninstall as well as any other warning mesage you might have.

• 3) Click Start, and then click Run.
• In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
• In Registry Editor, locate the following keys, right-click each key, export them just in case you need to re-import them. Once you have exported them, go ahead and click Delete the two folder keys:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
  
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
  
  4) Reboot the computer
  
  5) Go back to regedit (registry) and import the two Keys you exported from a Windows 7. Go to the same path in order to import them to the right place:
  PS: ** You might see that the WinSock2 got back to the registry, just redeleted it and then continue with the import of the two keys.

5) Open CMD as Administrator and run the command: netsh winsock reset.
6) Reboot the computer

Once computer comes back up online, you will see that your network is back up again.

One of our laptops is a Lenovo Yogo 3 from BestBuy last fall. It came with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10. The WIFI worked fine until recently, when we started getting these "missing protocol" issues an the inability to connect to any internet page. All other devices connect fine.
After trying many of the recommended fixes without success, I realized the obvious point that there is something different about this laptop and investigated the network driver. It was a 6.x 8/14 dated driver, so it seemed likely that a newer driver would be available.
I downloaded a 7. driver update dated 2/16 from Lenovo for Win 10 64, transferred it to the laptop by USB and ran it. It seemed to work, but after rebooting, the old driver was still there and the upgrade option said that I had the most recent driver installed.
I found that the install program had placed the driver in a folder under c:\drivers. I used the update driver option and browsed to that folder, then updated the driver.
Internet access came back immediately, with no reboot. In fact, I purposely did not reboot, fearing that the old driver might somehow be re-enabled. This morning, Internet access was still working, but video downloads were slow. We rebooted and video downloads are working so far.
On a cold reboot, there is a Lenovo popup asking to update the machine. This has been the case for a long time and it never seemed to affect the issue, regardless of whether we accept or reject the update request.

Typical case. As said before, Windows Update will try to replace "old" (but working) drivers with "new" (but useless) drivers. First make sure you have a working driver installed and then use the show/hide tool to hide any relevant driver update and hence prevent it replacing your working drivers. "Elementary Watson", as Sherlock Holmes would have said. I would also disable the Lenovo Update to prevent it messing with working drivers. "If it works, don't fix it" as they say.

Warning - I have been having the "One or more...." problem for weeks on two newish Dell Inspirons. I try almost any of the solutions suggested and it goes away for a few days. Yesterday I ran the Windows Network Fix.bat file and now I have no Wi-Fi at all. I'm not complaining - it says "Use at own risk" and I did.

In that case just undo any changes by going back to a working system restore point. Trying to fix the error just wastes you time and it could make it worse.
