Manual Method: Go to http://pcidatabase.com/ and look for Vendor and New Driver if any. Info you need. . . Device Manager => Network Adapters => "WiFi Vendor" => Right Click => Properties => Details => Hardware ID => VEN_168C / DEV_0032 this is the Vendor and Device Codes --- Sample entry [ PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_02091028&REV_01] use this info at PCI Data Base .Com --- it is the 4 Digit Code 168C and 0032

This web site does not care whether the driver was used in a HP, DELL, IBM, Other -- It only looks for the right Driver for the Device Code. Not all drivers are there but there is a vast collection of them on this site. Try to look for Drivers here if you can.

Any ideas on this, this is a snap in MMC from the Wifi Driver/Adapter that appears to have trouble starting which is why I always have to enable/disable the wifi to get connectivity.
Vendor is Atheros Comm. Device is DW1901 (802.11a/b/g/n, BT4.0+HS) Drivers can be found at the web addresses below -- USE All of the Hyper Link there are two of them. the second one is very long -- you might have to copy to Notepad to add all the lines together -- then copy to browser -- when going to website.
    Chip Number: DW1901
    Chip Description: 802.11a/b/g/n, BT4.0+HS

Got mine solved. I've got a Lenovo Y510P laptop and this problem just happened tonight. I did reboot the router but that didn't help.

What did help was that I logged out of Windows rather than just restarting by hitting the power button. Then on the sign-in screen I clicked the power icon (hoping I could get into Safe Mode) and selected Restart. Well, it restarted. But it also gave the Windows startup sound, which I haven't heard in a while, and the network connected.

Some kind of incomplete startup or shutdown is my guess as to why this happened.

Hope this is helpful. This is a great site.

It sounds like you have fast startup enabled. This doesn't completely shutdown the computer. It keeps some data (like in hibernation) to make startup faster. But when something is stuck (like the Wi-Fi is not working) you cannot recover unless you do a proper shutdown or restart. Read this thread for details and how to disable fast startup.

@SimBy I have had problems with this issue since the automatic install of Windows 10. That blue ethernet cord stretched across the floor was making me nuts. Your suggestion finally solved my problems after trying a multitude of other suggestions....THANK YOU!

Had same problem killing me right from my inception on windows 10. My previous solution was to reset my laptop but that was persistently annoying because you get a fresh install and only save your files with all updates and softwares yiu installed gone. Itz like climbing a hill and getting pushed down repeatedly. I already swore it was going to be my last windows 10 install when I found the solution that worked like a miracle.

    Here is your solution:

No loss of softwares or updates and not much stress. Just ducking cool.

My problem is not the same as OP since I can connect to internet just fine, but since it's related to Treshold 2 update and networking I'll post this here anyway.

My problem after the update was connecting to computers on my network from network browser. I would get this error:

    Attachment 51325

Trying to diagnose the problem I get this:

    Attachment 51326

    Further details show this:

    Attachment 51327

Trying to fix it does not work.

Again, no such problems before the 1511 update. I first noticed, the problem only manifested itself if I used a static IP on my computer. Switching back, to obtain IP automatically, fixes it.

Upon further investigation it seems this bug is related to NetBIOS over TCP/IP. If it's disabled, problem disappears. It seems it's enabled by deafault when using static IP.

    Attachment 51329

I also disabled LMHOSTS lookup but I don't think it's related to this. Hope this helps somebody.
    Thanks this worked for me.

I found this on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetBIOS So when NetBIOS is enabled to work properly it must also be enabled on the other computers of the network. If it is not it will cause problems. Good to know...

I seem to be suffering similar problems regarding the missing network protocols. This has started over the last 4 days. The first time it happened I turned off the router and the PC and then turned each one back on and that seemed to work and I was up and running again with the internet. It seems each day now it will be fine and then I will lose connection and get the "missing protocols" message. I have tried to look at various things and look at trouble shooters and the last one I got back which was under Windows Update was "Service registration is missing or corrupt". One thing I did notice last night was that whilst the network was down on my PC I was also unable to access the wifi on my mobile. The mobile could see the wifi available but when I put my password in I got an "incorrect password" message back. Apologies if I'm a bit vague, I don't know much about computers lol
