    Internet Modem/Router Not Working?

Earlier today my internet didn't work. I have cable internet and I have a modem/router that is supplied by the internet company here and the name of that modem is Technicolor. It's a modem and a router. Normally when the internet goes down, I get a message from the internet company that the internet is down in the area I'm in but this time I didn't.

I unplugged the modem, and plugged it back in. There seems to be 3 green lights that are on and bold. The DS light keeps on flashing. That is the issue here right? I don't remember how the lights are when my internet works but I recall there are at least 5 green lights that should be on.

Does this sound like a modem issue where it needs to be replaced? Or does this sound like maybe some wiring outside that got broken that needs to be fixed? A while back they came over and had to replace my modem/router. Another time I remember they came to just fix the wiring outside. What can I do here with the modem?

Call your IPS, they will instruct you on the process of resetting your modem/ router, or they may be able to do it remotely from they're location.
They will also be able to tell you if there is an outage in your area or if they need to send a technician out to service your equipment.

I have to actually go to the office. I can't call them.

But does this sound like it's my modem that is the issue? Or the wiring somehow? I don't think it's an outage in the area though because other people around here don't seem to have an issue. Is it possible they give me a new cable box and I return the old one and that might work? But you have to have technician come and install it right? Few times I recall it was wiring outside and once they had to replace my modem. Another time I think they just fixed the wiring outside and didn't had to replace the modem. But what about resetting the modem as that might work?

Your Internet Service Provider should be able to detect the problem online.

If you're only getting 3 of the usual 5 lights lit on the modem/ router that usually means, there's something going on with the service itself. This is why I suggested earlier you contact the ISP. You can try to reset the device if it has a reset button on it. You can also try swapping out the Ethernet cable if you have an extra one handy. To examine the outside connection, if accessible, you would need to check the connection at the splitter. Sometimes, if there is no protective boot over the connections, water can sheep in and short out the splitter. If that happens you would replace the splitter. The splitter is a small chrome box, a couple inches in size, it would have at least 3 cables connecting to it. If none of that works, then call out a service repairman to troubleshoot the issue.

This is what it should be I believe below,

    TECHNICOLOR MODEM LIGHTS
    LIGHTS READ
    Power Solid
    DS Solid
    US Solid
    Online Solid
    LINK Solid or Flashing

    This is my modem now.

    Power Light is Solid
The green light DS light is blinking every 2 seconds.
    No thing for US
    Solid
    Solid

Technicolor CGA4233TLV2 is the model number.

When I unplugged the modem for a minute and then connected it back on, all 6 green lights flashed. Then after a while it goes back to the same thing.

    Solid Green Light
DS Green Light Blinking Every 2 SEconds
    No Light in US
    No Light in This Line
    Solid Green Light
    Solid Green LIght

i'm pretty sure the first Solid Green Light is the Power Line right? I recall when my internet works, there is 5 or 6 solid green lights.

There doesn't appear to be a hole in the modem to put a paper clip to reset it. There is a WPS button on the front on the modem though. Is that the reset button?

The wifi does appear in my wifi connections but when you connect to it, it says connected but no internet.

    Just a moment...

There is a hole in the back of the modem. I took a paperclip and pushed into it and then notice the green lights were flashing. Then I noticed a loud phone tone. I have a landline that comes with the internet. Now normally when the internet goes out and then comes back later, there would be a loud phone ton which will indicate the phone works and the internet.

After this, it's the same green lights that are showing.

The LED icons probably look like this:
    Internet Modem/Router Not Working?-technicolor_leds.png

    The top LED is power.

The second LED - DS (Download Signal) - shows 'download activity'. A constantly blinking LED shows it's unable to find/receive a connection. Contact your ISP.

The third LED - US (Upload Signal) - shows 'upload activity'.

The fourth LED - @ - shows online status, i.e. whether a connection has been made to the internet.

The other LEDs should be self-explanatory.

The lowest button should be WPS.

The reset port is tiny and is the topmost hole on the back panel from what I can make out:
    Internet Modem/Router Not Working?-technicolor_back_panel.png

When you power on the router it will take several minutes to carry out a self-test before it settles down.

If you reset it then it will take longer to carry out a reconfiguration then a self-test before it settles down.

From what I can tell, it's the DS LED that is most important as this shows it has found a download signal from your ISP and locked on. If it keeps blinking then you need to contact your ISP.

The second most important LED is the one with an @ icon. It has 3 states:
    Internet Modem/Router Not Working?-technicolor_connection_state.png

If it's solid red or continually blinking green/red then, again, you need to contact your ISP.

To summarise, your problem appears to be with your ISP or perhaps the physical connection into your house, not your router.

    Hope this helps...

The Top Led light is solid green.

The Download Signal is blinking green every 2 seconds.

The Upload Signal does not display anything.

The @ or online status does not display anything.

The 2.4 ghz shows solid green light.

The 5.0 ghz shows solid green light.

So based on all that, is it most likely my router? The @ icon does not show any light at all. It isn't green or green/red or red. It isn't on.
