802.1X Internet Not Connecting with GIGABYTE Motherboard/WiFi

    Windows 10 Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.4412)

I recently moved to an apartment complex (meant for students) near my school, and the internet is provided through a third party. I've been able to connect practically all of my devices to it, but for some reason I am unable to connect to the 802.1X version of my provided network.

I contacted their support team and so far they've only had me try a Network reset. They escalated the ticket, but the agent who responded to the ticket basically just said he doesn't know what to do. Literally suggested that I ask forums. So here I am.

I would appreciate any insight where possible. System specs below.

    AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2
    Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB x 4
    GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

802.1X refers to a network authentication protocol for endpoints, more commonly used by large companies and universities. If your off-campus access is provided by a 3rd-party, most likely:

    1. Your residential ISP doesn't support 802.1X (no auth server). Since this isn't an on-campus network, your university's IT has no obligation to extend 802.1X to this residence.

    2. If your provider was smart enough to support 802.1X, they would operate their own auth servers which wouldn't help you remotely connect to your school's networks.

The best answer is to ask your university's IT, if they support some VPN solution for remote access. This involves enrolling in some digital certificate or possibly a secure card reader.
