    WiFi USB dongle query

I am supposed to be getting broadband download speeds of about 110mbps from my provider. Unfortunately my wifi is very laggy and I never get these speeds and only manage about 60mbps on average. My PC is not inbuilt wifi so I have always used a USB dongle.

Someone said the weak spot in my system cutting the speeds could be my wifi USB dongle which shows as a
Realtek 8811CU Wireless LAN 802.11. I have followed some instructions online and have checked through my Windows 10 Network settings and I can see on the screen it gives speed as 72mbps. So, does that mean that 72mbps is the MAXIMUM speed that I can expect to get with this particular dongle??

If "yes" is the answer, can anyone advice me of a dongle that might be sensitive enough to receive 110 mbps or more???
My Windows 10 is Home Edition version 22H and build 19045.4291

Thanks in advance for any help.

The adapter can get over 300megs but very small antenna what is the signal strength on the pc if it going through a wall or TV or something between the router that could effect it is it the same on 2g and 5g 5g is quicker but shorter range.
Could you test with a cable or next to router with WiFi and change router channel

I use a TP-Link AC600 Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2 [Archer T2UB Nano] USB Dongle that the package says 433Mbps on 5GHz and 200Mbps on 2.4GHz, get the full 25Mbps Wireless DSL I'm paying for. And I disable the Notebooks internal Network adapter [only has 802.11n with 2GHz]. Wireless 802.11a, b, c have become too slow. And the Router should be Gigabit for Ethernet connected devices and 802.11n, ac or ax for Wireless/Wi-Fi devices, mine is an ax, and be both 2G and 5G.

    Wifi Dongle speed

I'm still not clear - if my PC reading says speed of my current Realtek dongle = 72mbps does that mean that 72 is the maximum speed that this particular dongle can handle ??? If so maybe I should replace it with a dongle that states much higher mbps ???

With an ISP it is more of an up to speed rather than an expectation.
You need to look in your Modem/Router or whatever to find what your Internet connection speed is in reality.

Your internal network and WiFi speeds are a separate issue.
That is a very small wireless adapter, too small to have decent aerials within.
It is Dual band 1x1 i.e. max connection speed of 150 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 433 Mbps at 5 GHz.

Realistically you can only expect a max of about half those connection speeds.

"72mbps is the MAXIMUM speed that I can expect to get with this particular dongle??"

That is the connection speed, realistically it would be half of that max.

"If so maybe I should replace it with a dongle that states much higher mbps ???"

    Yes, I have this one:
    Dual-Band USB 3.0 WiFi Adapter - A6210 | NETGEAR

Dual band 2x2 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz 866 Mbps 5 GHz, USB 3 This is roughly what you get in modern Laptops.
