Thanks for the posts so far. I chatted with the ASUS rep and he said the Mobo had a 24 month warranty which has expired. I have a spare PCIe 3.0 expansion slot so my plan is to disable the card via the BIOS and install the Ethernet card unless I can get the existing card working. My Mobo has Wifi already which is what I am using for Internet browsing and LAN access but I want a wired connection as I back up my hard drive on a regular basis.
There shouldn't be any issue using Wireless LAN for backing up depending upon what the backup drive is. I have a LAN and both Wired and Wireless computers using it to access the NAS drive attached to the Router, Internet not involved. I have no need for OneDrive or any other cloud storage.

Thanks @Berton. I back-up my data to a Western Digital NAS. I know I can use the WiFi but I prefer the wired connection. It may have something to do with the fact that I sold wireline services for AT&T for 25 years! lol

The latest driver that I use is: 12.19.2.56 from 23.08.2023

Right now I can't find the setting, but in some systems the LAN is disabled/disconnected as long as WiFi is enabled

@Pentagon let me know if you find the setting. I do not see it on my PC. I downloaded the latest driver from Intel so I am surprised you have one that is more up to date. Are you sure we have the same card?

    This driver should work

    e1d.inf_amd64_9959ba283455536d.zip

Try this: Disable WiFi and see what happens if LAN is active

@Pentagon Thanks for the suggestion. The driver updated but the card is still not working. I think its a hardware issue aka the card is broken.

@itsme1 thanks for the tips. I updated the BIOS to the latest version or 1601... always a fun, harrowing procedure.... anyway, the network card still does not work.

Take an external Ethernet adapter to PCI express. It will not block a USB port, I advise that for that, technically between USB and PCI express I have no knowledge.

Thanks @itsme1. I already bought the internal NIC. I am going to install it today.
