Intel® Ethernet Connection I219 appears in Dev Mgr but not working

    Hello,

I have the Intel® Ethernet Connection I219 Series. Here is a URL to the specifics:

    Access Denied

When I look in Device Manager, it appears the adapter is working. It shows up in the Network Adapter category and it says "This device is working properly" when I right click on the icon.

The problem is it is not working. I ran the Intel Driver & Support Assitant and all drivers are up to date. The driver was created on 9/29/20 and the driver version is 12.19.0.16.

When I run the troubleshooter, it says a cable is disconnected. I have changed the cable three times. The lights near the end of the ethernet cable that enters my machine has no blinking lights. Occasionally the lights blink if I move the cable. Same thing for the end of the cable that connects to the ethernet swtich.

I have tried disabling and re-enabling the network card. I have tried uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling it.

I have tried resetting the network stack by typing the following and restarting:

    • netsh winsock reset
    • netsh int ip reset
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /renew
    • ipconfig /flushdns

When I run a CMD window and type ipconfig, I do not see an Ethernet #1 adapter. I do see an Ethernet #2 adapter which I assume is the Intel® Ethernet Connection I219. I am not sure why it does not show up as Ethernet #1 adapater. Maybe it doesn't matter?

My pc also has WiFi which is what I am using to connect to the Ethernet and my LAN.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Bill

Here is the output from ipconfig. I removed the IP Information that is assigned to my Wifi.

Regardless of the Windows driver status, if you don't get a Link Light from plugging in the cable -- then it's a physical issue. Wiggling the cable indicates it's either a damaged cable, or a bad RJ45 socket. If you have replaced the cable several times, then it's probably physically damaged.

Your options are switching to another onboard NIC (if one exists on your motherboard), or buy a PCI Ethernet card as a replacement. No amount of driver futzing will fix a broken link connection.

Yeah no lights and cable disconnected but the lights blink when you move the cable. The connector is bad or the cable.

Thanks @Malneb. I was hoping that was not the answer but a bad ethernet port was my guess too. It looks like the Ethernet cable is connected to my Motherboard. Here is a URL to my Mobo:

    TUF GAMING B460M-PLUS (WI-FI)|Motherboards|ASUS USA

Would it make sense to disable the onboard ethernet and buy an Ethernet card? It looks like I have an available expansion slot according to the diagram. The two slots are PCI 3.0. I have a graphics card in the white slot and the black slot is free. Any advice on an Ethernet card? Any other way to add a wired Ethernet card? USB to Ethernet?

I believe Asus has warranties of more than 2 years on motherboards.

Two choices for hardware issues, one is a USB to Ethernet adapter and the other is a Wireless USB Dongle. And there's also a PCIe X1 or X4 add-in card for Ethernet.

Thanks for the posts so far. I chatted with the ASUS rep and he said the Mobo had a 24 month warranty which has expired. I have a spare PCIe 3.0 expansion slot so my plan is to disable the card via the BIOS and install the Ethernet card unless I can get the existing card working. My Mobo has Wifi already which is what I am using for Internet browsing and LAN access but I want a wired connection as I back up my hard drive on a regular basis.
