Can no longer cast Youtube to SmartTV from laptop browser

For years now I've been able to cast Youtube videos from my laptop to my Vizio smart TV. Now for some unknown reason the cast icon is not showing. Even in Chrome, menu, save and share, cast= no devices are found. Google hasn't been any help, and no recent mention of problems.

Yet, casting works on my Android phone to several smart TV's in the house. This leads me to believe it's a Youtube, or perhaps Windows 10 change. Any ideas? Do you still see the cast icon on Youtube? Can no longer cast Youtube to SmartTV from laptop browser-capture.jpg

    Hi, 19045.3693

I can cast audio to my TV, and Youtube video via my Firestick. (My TV does not support Miracast, but does DLNA).

Chrome cast (via the ... and Cast top right) works for video.

However, a recent issue when one laptop stopped working (Unexpected Device Error) led me to find a necessary port was blocked obscurely.

I could still 'see' the TV and Firestick though.

What is your exact full build number?

Do you think the loss of casting occurred after some update?

If recent, have you tried using an appropriate System Restore point?

It seems usually when things go awry, it's after an update of some sort.

If you open Youtube, click on a video and hover over it, the cast button is normally next to settings, miniplayer, theater mode, full. screen. On either Chrome, Edge or Firefox it's no longer there.

Also, when trying to cast any page from any browser under their respective menus, no device is found, even though I have several smart TVs and Amazon Firestick, so it could be a Windows 10 problem.

When did this problem occur? Which was the update immediately preceding that? (See Update History).

What happens if you pick an mp3 file, rt click it and click Cast?

There are many guides around for fixing casting problems. None of them mentioned the underlying cause I had to deal with - but your problem is different so you may be luckier.

    E.g. Chrome:
windows 10 - Chrome browser says "No devices found" when I try to cast to a Chromecast - Super User

    Windows:

I'm not sure exactly but I believe it was fairly recently. Until today when I checked updates and ran one, which didn't solve the problem, I haven't had an update for several weeks. I've tried multiple fixes before coming here with no fix.

I'll just use the app on the TV itself, or cast from my phone.

Can you still cast video using Windows 10?

You have a preview update I don't - I choose never to receive those via Group Policy.

Suggest you try uninstalling that or using a System Restore point to do that as an experiment.

As I said, my TV ('old' SMART TV doesn't support Miracast. I can cast a Youtube video via Chrome, or audio via rt click and Cast.

    Thanks for your time.

I've made some changes, reinstalled apps and except for this casting problem, things are running fine, so I'm reluctant to do a restore. I did report to Youtube and will to Microsoft. Hopefully, a future update will straighten it out.

You could try uninstalling the update alone. Create a restore point beforehand, update your disk image set for additional security..

Uninstalling the update should have no consequential effect..

It wouldn't be todays preview update, and I'm fairly certain it worked after the prior preview update on 10/27. To be honest, I'm not sure how to uninstall the preview updates as they're not listed when I click uninstall updates.

Update: I've tried every suggestion Google has to offer and even had a tech from Microsoft remotely try to fix it. He seemed to stumble around and downloaded a bunch of optional updates that didn't change anything.
