I stopped and disabled the function discovery resource publication service and then I can cast youtube to the android tv. So that's not the problem.

As you tried things on google without success and microsoft gave nothing as result. You should do a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Before that in an administrator command prompt you can try these command lines:
    sfr /scannow
    And
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Edit: Try with a new profile to cast.
One problem leads to another. I set up a new user account, which had the same results, no casting icon on Youtube and "no devices found" when trying to cast from the browser, this time Edge. The problem is Windows doesn't give me the option to remove the new users, but to block. Back to Google.

I've just about given up trying to fix my casting problem but I'm very reluctant to do a repair install. I have two drives, one containing the system and another holding all the data. It was a painstaking process to set it up this way and I'd hate to attempt to do it again if something went wrong. Also, to a lesser degree I have dozens of installed fonts.

I'm tempted to upgrade to Windows 11 and with the problems mentioned above I have Adobe CS6, which may or may not work after an upgrade.

Thanks to you and dalchina for your time

Edit: Was able to delete new account in Control Panel, User accounts.

You should do some imaging, to have a backup of the system and data. In this forum it is recommended, you can do research here or open a thread to find the right software, there are several free and paid ones.

If you had made backups before the problem, all you had to do was restore a backup before the problem appeared. Now that you are "stuck" you should start imaging, once the system and data backup is done, you could try the repair install, switching to Windows 11 and any other solution to the problem found in Google. Or you start from scratch, it will be hateful but the last time since you make backups at the end. You will be practically at peace forever.

Good point. I have Macrium and used to do backups fairly often. However, For the past couple years I've done quite a bit of traveling and for some reason stopped. I've done several clones to bigger drives but never done a restore. I supposed I could try to restore the C drive and go from there.

Since it's been a couple years is there anything I should be aware of?

The free version of Macrium Reflect 8.0.xx ends on January 1, 2024, it will be usable forever until a Windows 11 update breaks it. In this case you will have to upgrade to the paid version or other free software.
Here explanation and download windows 11 forum (Do not download 8.1, you need 8.0):

Technically I have to say that I can't say much because I haven't started the imaging yet, I have to do it soon it's planned. There should be no procedural changes since the last time you used it, install, make a recovery usb flash drive to restore the backups. Ask anyway in the macrium reflect thread or create a thread.

Update: This is bizarre. After countless attempted fixes I finally gave up. Today, I opened Youtube and there was, the casting icon. It just came back! Casting from the Chrome and Edge menus also has options which weren't there before. Unsolved, but solved.

Perhaps what you tried to resolve this problem did not work immediately but after one or more shutdowns/restarts of the computer over several days.

IDK perhaps, but I don't think I actually changed much.

After the ability to cast suddenly came back, I looked, and had a Windows update pending restart. I was reluctant to restart but did and still had the ability. It may have been a prior update that broke it, correct in the last. That it worked before restart has me guessing.

    OK.
Consider doing some imaging before upgrading to Windows 11.
I prefer free software when I start imaging. I will definitely not take macrium reflect which could be broken at any time. And it's not certain that by taking the paid version of macrium when the free version is broken that it will be able to restore the backups of the free version.
