Cast to Device (TV) fails: Unexpected Device Error

Hi, I have two laptops, same build 19045.3693.

I can cast from one to my Panasonic TV, but not the other, both via Wi-fi.
The one that fails, fails as per the title.

I have looked at several guides, the best so far being
    Geekpage Cast to Device

I've checked services (and dependent service settings), Networking and Sharing settings, firewall settings.
Also Windows Media Player, Stream settings.

    I've updated drivers (Windows Update).
Checked MS LLDP Protocol Driver Setting.

    Avast (free) runs on both.

Disabling Avast's shields makes no difference.

If you have any suggestions they'd be welcome. Thanks!

Two different systems, two different pieces of hardware.

Er yes... so? Well observed... but I knew that.

What are you suggesting? Replace one..?

Or are you suggesting that 'cast' only works on certain specific hardware?

Cast did work a few weeks ago on my PC Specialist laptop- then stopped. I have no idea what that might be related to.. both have had normal updates.

How old are the laptops and TV? Laptops and TVs made since about 2015 support Miracast. To see if your laptop supports Miracast from the Command Prompt (Administrator) run the command dxdiag. After you do that save the information to a text file. Open the text file and look to see if Miracast is Available. For example:

Cast to Device (TV) fails: Unexpected Device Error-miracast1.jpg

To cast to a TV using Miracast

    1. Select Connect

Cast to Device (TV) fails: Unexpected Device Error-connect1.jpg

    2. Select the TV to cast to

    Thanks, both report
    Miracast: Available, with HDCP

However note I am NOT trying to mirror the screen, simply play a mp3 file... so I simply rt click it, click Cast..

Note that FWIW using either PC, I can cast a Youtube video from Chrome to my Amazon Firestick.
Whilst the TV is recognised as an option, it's greyed out. (Chrome's dialogue does add that's only available for specific video sites).

(DLNA is enabled on the TV of course)

Doing a little searching reveals that the only way to cast music directly from my PC to a TV would require me to use the Chrome browser and select Cast to ChromeCast enabled device. I don't have one of those so that way is out. However, Casting to my TV using Miracast does work so is my only option.

    On PC
    Right-click MP3 file
    Select Cast to Device
Select the SmartTV in the list
Media Player launches and starts playing MP3
    On TV
    PC desktop shows on screen
Audio from MP3 is heard on TV speakers

Note, if sound from MP3 plays is heard on PC instead of TV then switch the audio output from Speakers to Digital Output.

I know, exactly so - that's what I do of course.

And that works on 1 PC... but the other produces the (very common) non-indicative error similar to this:
Cast to Device (TV) fails: Unexpected Device Error-1.jpg

    - as per my thread title.

When I was playing around I got the same error one time. I am not sure but maybe I was trying to cast to a device that was already being used by Miracast. I haven't been able to get the same error again so I can't verify why it happened.

Even though I still can't duplicate that error I can get another error. If the TV I am trying to connect to is not turned on then Cast to Device will timeout.
