    thanks for all assistance!
    the problem has not been solved by deleting all network profiles and signatures as on previous image.
    the system requires the password to be entered every time i sign in on wifi and will not remember it - nor will the system 'see' wifi networks to be managed [image] that is not a trainsmash as i have network cable option.
    regards

    I suggest signing in to a different user account [even if you have to create one to do the test] and seeing if it suffers from the same problem.
    - If it does then I suggest running SFC and, if necessary, running a Repair install.
    - If it doesn't then your current user account cannot be used any more.
    SFC-DISM - TenForumsTutorials
    Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials
    {note that, despite its name, this is a repair procedure not an installation}

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    And be sure any other accounts' names are different by at least one character from the original.

    have done thanks, not the solution though - re the confusion with DOS, my bad, should read 'command' as per image or MS-DOS for those unfortunate enough having missed out on the 1980s .... now let me go back to my Abacus

    most of us did understand you meant the command prompt even if they are so young so they never experienced MS-DOS era, they still know the computer history.
    Some people just have to point out when someone use wrong words or shortenings.. I dont know if that makes them feel better or something or if they just have had to much to drink while they sit at their computers..
    So just ignore those people.

    As for the network problem.. You have some good help, so i let them help you.
