    Cannot connect to internet

Update: I persevered with the restarts and internet access returned. I remain concerned about what might be causing this, and worried that it might happen again without being able to recover.

My HP Envy laptop is running Windows 10 Home, version 22H2, OS build 19045.3636.

Recently I've been encountering problems with the device occasionally freezing when waking up from sleep, not often enough to be annoying, and easily fixed by holding down the power button to force a reset.

On this occasion after a forced reset I found I had no internet access. Where the wifi icon normally shows up (bottom right) I have a globe icon. When I click on it, the pop-up window gives an option to turn flight mode on and off, where before it used to show a list of available connections. I can click on "Network & Internet settings" which takes me to a page showing "Not connected" and gives me the option to Troubleshoot. The Troubleshooter fails to identify the problem. There is an option for "Network reset" which reset the device after five minutes, but still no internet access.

I fired up a spare laptop to check for internet access and it works, allowing me to log on to this forum.

If anybody can advise me on how to recover internet access on my main machine it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you installed the network card driver?

Hi FreeBooter. The first thing I should say is that I've restarted the device once again and internet access has returned. It still concerns me that the device has been acting strangely recently so I'm not entirely happy about the situation.

In answer to your question, I have no idea what a network card driver is, and it would never occur to me to mess about with such things. The laptop has been working well for years and suddenly starts acting up without me having changed anything. The first thing that occurred to me was it may be due to a Windows update, but I couldn't perform a subsequent update because I couldn't access the internet.

I will amend my original post with the new status.

You can view name of your laptop network card from Device Manager and google searching for the name of the network card will bring about manufactures website of the network card where you can download the driver, or you can download the driver from laptop manufacturer website.

The device is Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 and Device Manager tells me it's up to date and working correctly. The Power Management tab had "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" ticked, so I unticked it. I guess I just have to wait to see if it happens again. Thanks for your input.
