    modem telephone question

I have an older Cox modem that also has a telephone connector but no wifi. My new modem has wifi but no phone connector. Using a coax splitter can I setup both devices using the Cox phone from the old modem, but not using the ethernet, and get my wifi from the new modem?
    Thank you,

Only if Cox enables both on your account and the elder eMTA is still allowed on their list of devices that can be active in their system. Just call Cox and ask them.

The modem needs to be provisioned for use. Ideally, you'd want a modem that has phone already built-in. They (Cox - stupid name) may allow both modems on the same coax. But there could be signal issues using both modems at the same time on the same coax.

If you want Wi-Fi, you don't need a modem with it built-in. You'd log into the modem and put it into bridging mode and then connect a good reputable router for Wi-Fi ability. You do want to use Ethernet if at all possible for your computers, TV and whatnot. Leave Wi-Fi for the smart devices (IoT - Internet of Things), tablets, phones, laptops, etc.

I use the VoIP (Voice over IP) service Ooma (Pronounced Ooo-ma) instead of ISP phone service. It's only about $7 per month without all the fluff. If fluff is needed then add $10 for a total of about $17 per month. Check Ooma out. VoIP Phone Services - #1 VoIP for Business and Home You will however need to buy a Telo (like a phone modem). I bought mine on eBay.

Spectrum in my area can provide bundling of TV, Phone and Internet or Phone and Internet [what our church uses] then provides the Modem/Router necessary. The phone part does not rely upon an installed landline at the user's location, uses Spectrum's connections for that.
