I can't get remote desktop to work with while using my VPN

I'm trying to access my machine with my smart phone, but I think my vpn is hindering it. I do not go "naked" with my ip traffic so that is not an option.

I also use anydesk app on the android and I've also tried remote desktop for android as well.

I'm on win ten pro and 22h2

Just to confirm the issue is with my Win machine and not my android device.

20 dollars BTC to anyone that can help me do this. Thanks

The machine is a PC at home on wifi router.

The only message I get when I use any desk app and I think I even tried the remote pc app for android is connection can't be made.

I maybe have to change firewall settings or something...

    Yes, I figured it out.

It was the VPN from the server side...Naturally. The VPN masks the public IP address so it is impossible to locate it over the web by the remote/external device.

    It was that simple.

Strange how the VPN industry has not been able to figure out a solution to this.

The VPN is doing exactly what it is advertised to do - it is keeping people from gaining access to the computer from the "outside world." Isn't that why you pay for it?

My router has Network Address Translation firewall built-in (as most routers do). I cannot get to any of my computers from outside the private LAN side of my router because of the NAT firewall (unless I designate one of them as the "DMZ" computer or use port forwarding rules). I know what my router's public IP address is because I use a DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server) service. When I want to connect to one of my computers on my home LAN from outside my home LAN, I find my router's public IP address using the DDNS. Then I connect to the VPN server built into my router using OpenVPN. Once connected, my remote computer is then attached to my home network and I can access all the computers on the LAN side of my router.

If I also connected the computers on my home network to a commercial VPN service, they would no longer be available on my home network, because they would be connected to the VPN provider's network and they would be controlling access to my computer via the network connection.

I have never had an issue with anyone getting past the NAT firewall in my router that I did not want to, so that (plus encrypted websites that start with https:) is enough security for me. I don't like to connect my computers to some third party network via VPN, I just don't see the need for it. IMHO, people who are paying for a commercial VPN service as an anti-virus measure are wasting their money.

Incorrect on not being able to locate your connection on the Internet, same as the assumption that your traffic is masked. Unless you are running a true tunnel between your house and the end point, what you do is seen by your ISP and the VPN host, along with when it hits the exit point.

have you considered trying Ivacy VPN? I use it for my setups, and it hasn't caused any hindrance when accessing my machine with my smartphone. It might be a solution worth exploring before you go for any other troubleshooting steps.

Give it a go, and let me know if it helps! If not, we can explore other options together.

    1) ZeroTier on the Computer.

    2) TightVNC on the computer. (Or UltraVNC).

    ------------

    A) ZeroTier One App on the phone.

    B) RVNC App on the phone.

Fire up the reverse VPN ZeroTier on the phone and port into the computer via the VNC protocol on your computer via the reverse VPN ZeroTier. You're actually using layer 4 over layer 3 in the OSI model. Like running a VPN and then connecting to Tor (The onion router).

DO NOT ever port forward a VNC port. Always us it via a VPN like OpenVPN, Wireguard or the aforementioned reverse VPN ZeroTier. In reality, all port forwarding should be off in the router as well as UPnP. I'd only use port forwarding with port knocking which is better than a regular port forward. Not exactly full proof on the security front, but better than nothing. There are programs like Portknock and Portknocking Tool to help with port knocking. (Not to be confused with port triggering).

You could probably do all this with Cloudflare Tunnel, but it's a weee bit more complicated. LOL

    Are you lost yet?

I only use a vpn for geo-lock bypass. I agree waste of money as an antivirus measure.
