I'm confused. Your screenshots show selection of a 'Standard' connection rather than a 'USB Connection'.
The first screenshot was simply to show the choices I was presented. The second image was the result of using "USB Connection."

I've re-read everything. I hope you get it sorted.

Standard installation wasn't appropriate, because the printer is not a network printer.
Custom requires that a port be specified. I selected USB Printer port (with the cable connected), but the installer found no printer.
USB Connection naturally requires that the cable be connected as well. Below is an image of the results of that attempt. I did the power cycle / cable connection thing three times, but driver installation still wouldn't complete.
You might try leaving the USB cable unplugged and see if the software prompts you to plug it in.

I tried that, but the installation app only creates an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. Driver installation still fails. Thanks anyhow.

Maybe try a different USB port.

I did that too. Same result. This whole problem is directly related to the clean Win 10 install about two months ago. For some reason, the printer hasn't cooperated since. I really don't want to go through the agony of another clean install, but that may be my only choice at this point.

You might try a driver from the Canon website created for an older version of Windows.

That's worth trying, although Canon is not known for making legacy drivers available. So far, I have found none on their website.

Go to Canon Support for imageCLASS D530 | Canon U.S.A., Inc. , click on "Software and drivers", scroll down to the version box and select an older 64 bit version of Windows. The driver for Windows 8.1 seems to be the same as the one for Windows 10, so try something older than that.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
