Does Windows 10 Require Wi-Fi To Be Connected?

Does Windows 10 Require Wi-Fi To Be Connected when I shut down or reboot my pc for Wi-Fi to automatically connect again?
If so then the connect automatically checkbox and automatically connect when in range settings is useless in my opinion.

If you "Disconnect" from Wifi device - then yes, went you reboot - you will have to manually reconnect...
So, yes it has to be connected with Auto-Connect enabled for that wifi device in order to allow the connection upon restart..
If the wifi device signal is not present - it will try to connect to the next available Auto-Connect wifi Device.

Ok. I Connect to Wi-Fi before I shut down my PC. I normally leave Wi-Fi disconnected unless there's something I need to do then I manually connect.

    Thanks for your reply!

There is no need to do that.

    Hello @Turtley,

You could always create a Batch Script with the options to Disconnect [ Run before Shutdown ] and Connect [ Run after Startup ] and have it on the Desktop. If you want this, I will put a Script together for you.

I just need the Wireless Network Adapter Name [ probably Wi-Fi ! ]:

    > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > Wireless Name

    I hope this helps.

    Excellent Idea Paul!
I made a simple batch file to start my internet and put it in Windows Task Scheduler to run at logon. Now it doesn't matter whether my internet is connected or not when I reboot or shut down my PC.

    I used these three lines...
    Code:
    @echo off
    netsh wlan connect name=ssid_name
    exit
Thanks for your idea and gracious offer to help!

It did not matter in the first place.

    You know this how???
I have an app that requires internet connection briefly at logon. After that I can disconnect.

If you have actively disconnected from a network then automatically reconnecting is not normally available.
You had not said that you had disconnected from a network. You had merely said that you were not connected before rebooting. That is an entirely different situation.
I am generally not connected at the time I reboot but my connect automatically works afterwards. That's because I have not actively disconnected from the network, the network itself has generally been switched off first.
