Thanks - what is odd, then, is the apparently truncated name 'DELL' in your screenshot. Is it possible you've typed it somewhere with a space?

I erased it from the original screenshot, that's why. Going back to your comment you said "Is that the exact name- or do names have spaces." I thought you meant that something in the naming of the computer was not compatible with file sharing. AFAIK as long as names are not the same there shouldn't be any conflict.
I temporarily installed Teamviewer in both machines and I was able to transfer files between them, which is what I wanted . But I'd like to use Windows native file sharing functionality instead. It seems though that it's not that simple, it requires tweaking.
Start from beginning have you created shares on each pc? Have you set everyone to have access on the share? Have you then set NTFS permission correct on the folder? Windows does like _- in computer names. What specific folders are you sharing there are special permission on users folders which makes sharing difficult. The error is it can't find pc try connecting via IP \\192.168.1.5\sharename
YES to all
Not sure about that, but without doing anything the Public folders should be correctly configured for sharing by default.
You mean that Windows does NOT like _ or - in computer names? Should I rename the computers without the "-"?
Yes I tried that way and same error
- is fine, spaces can cause issues. In some contexts such names need to be enclosed in quotes.
