i rcently discovered that my lenovo g780 laptop internet speed is only 30mb,while my desktop speed is 172mb. i cannot find the answer to this, i installed all the windows updates, including 22h2. please help thank you pothound
Are we talking wifi or ethernet? if its ethernet what is the network card ie 100meg if its wifi what type is it ie b,n,p,ac as that will limit speed
wifi the speed should be 120+, but now it is 28-30
The WiFi card in that old Laptop is single band abgn, so the max speed would be about 70 Mb/s.
Even the Ethernet is limited to 100 Mb/s.
To improve on that would require an external USB WiFi dual band dongle, or even a 1 Gb/s USB ethernet dongle.
That assumes the Router/WAP also matches up to the required hardware specs.
thank you i installed an external usb wifi adapter. i took it to the computer club to do this. they put the adapter in and i don't know the brand name, or i would recommend it. my speed now is 135mb. i am very pleased. i do need to learn how to save it, so i can remove it to transport the computer. thanks for all your help. pothound
i don't know what happened to the internal adapter, but the external one is faster anyway, so some good came out of this. thank you all. pothound
