Unable To Print To W7/W10 Shared Printer

I have a printer on the LAN. W7 can print to it without problem; just tried to get "new" W10 to print to it but I keep getting error messages "printer is in error state" or "error printing". I have "sharing" checked on both Win7 printer properties and the Win10 printer properties. I see the Win10 file in the printer queue on Win10. What else need I do to get it to print? [

It's often worth installing the full software package provided by the unknown printer maker [as opposed to just the driver] for this unknown printer.
At the every least you'd then be able to work through any troubleshooting guidance provided by the unknown printer maker for this unknown printer.
If, just for example, it's an HP then you'd be able to use its Print & scan doctor. That has helped me out with my printers over the years.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

You are talking about one or more PC's?
A LAN printer is connected via your home network, and that has nothing to do with printer sharing.
Have you updated the driver and checked whether it is suited for W10?
Do you see your printer in the control panel > Devices and Printers?

Printer is in Control Panel -> Devices and Printers. Unit is a Brother MFC.

Actually, "sharing" did make a partial difference as before it was marked "sharing" it didn't even try to send the file. As I said above, the file IS visible sitting in the printer queue. It just doesn't print.

    1) Turn off the Printer, unplug it from the power, re-plug it in the power, turn on the Printer.
Try to Print from the Windows 10 computer. If it doesn't work, then try the next step:

    2) Uninstall the Printer from your Windows 10 computer, and after the Uninstall completes, go to Brother's website:
Brother Drivers: Info & Downloads - Printer Drivers & More | Brother
Find and install the Printer Driver from there.
    Try to print.

If both fail, try this checklist:

It means that your W11 PC tries to print via your W10 PC, which is unsuccessful. It is not what you want and disturbs matters.
I wonder whether your printer is still visible (not dimmed) in the CP after disabling shared printer.
Just follow the suggestions, made in this thread.

Please confirm what the printer is connected to and how it is connected.
    - Your network router? WiFi / Ethernet cable?
    - Your Win7 computer? USB cable / "WiFi Direct"?

PiKo: There isn't any Win11 PC; it's one Win7 PC (actually a second Win 7 PC is also connected and works, too) and one Win10 PC.

Try3: All computers and printer are connected to router via RJ45 cables.

pepanee: Thanks - I'm away but will try your steps when I return home.

Then it is a network printer. It is not a "shared" printer.

I suggest you consider uninstalling its software then
