Local network hardly ever correctly displayed

Hi, I have got two desktops and a laptop on win 10 and very seldom they displayed the full shares (three computers and a fritzbox)
I have them on the same private network, network detection on, file and printer sharing on, sharing with password security off.
The only irregularity I notice is a window I get with the sysdm.cpl command stating I am on a public network. When I opt for private and restart, the window still states I am on a public network.
    Is this a common problem?

Are you talking about whether or not things are displayed in the File explorer, Network section?
    That's been unreliable for years.
It is not a network problem but a File explorer problem for which there is no permanent solution.

Check your network comms but entering the various network computer names in each other's File explorer address bars using this syntax
    Code:
    \\COMPUTERNAME
You can also create shortcuts to each other's network computers & each other's network computer shared folders as well as subfolders of those shared folders [right-click, Create shortcut].
You can also create such shortcuts manually.
I've done so & I don't bother using File explorer, Network section any more.

    All the best,
    Denis

I can see no entry in any part of that System properties dialog that refers to whether a network is Private or Public.

OK thanks for the replies,.My IP range runs from 192.168.178.1 up to 75. nothing special.
In system properties click network-id and then you can select the option public or private.
I was right that microsoft is the culprit. I have been using windows from 1995 on and messing around with windows eversince.
It is incredible file-explorer still has bugs after 28 years!

My Network ID button is always greyed out despite being on a fully-functional network.
Please would you post a screenshot of the dialog it takes you to where "then you can select the option public or private".
You have Windows 10 Pro and so that button is active on yours. I have Home so that button is not active on mine.

How did you get on with the checks I suggested in post #3?

    Hi Dennis,
I have not yet tried your suggestions. Tomorrow is another day.
On my own computer I have double boot: win10 and mint 21.2. I have to figure out how to connect to the windows network. The normal way did not work.

    Hi Dennis,
I have sorted it out, but bump into the same problems like before. Using the computernames reveals the shares of 2 computers, but the third is still inaccessable. Local networking in Mint 21.1 is a piece of cake, but my wife does not like to work with linux

So it is a real network problem not just a File explorer glitch.

Perhaps you could check your network settings. This is the checklist I use.
