Local network hardly ever correctly displayed

What range are the IPS of the pcs it can think it's public if it's not a local IP range

Are you talking about whether or not things are displayed in the File explorer, Network section?
That's been unreliable for years.
It is not a network problem but a File explorer problem for which there is no permanent solution.

Check your network comms but entering the various network computer names in each other's File explorer address bars using this syntax

\\COMPUTERNAME

You can also create shortcuts to each other's network computers & each other's network computer shared folders as well as subfolders of those shared folders [right-click, Create shortcut].
You can also create such shortcuts manually.
I've done so & I don't bother using File explorer, Network section any more.

Please would you post a screenshot of the dialog it takes you to where "then you can select the option public or private".
You have Windows 10 Pro and so that button is active on yours. I have Home so that button is not active on mine.

How did you get on with the checks I suggested in post #3?

So it is a real network problem not just a File explorer glitch.

Perhaps you could check your network settings. This is the checklist I use.
