Change default network icon for shares

I don't think this is possible but i'll ask anyway.

I have a NAS where I can create a desktop shortcut \\Nas and it takes me to the root of my nas, problem is it defaults to a My Computer icon when i pin it to quick access. I can change the shortcut icon to what ever i want on the desktop, but the moment it is pinned to quick access it defaults to the windows My Computer icon.

Winaero lets you add your own custom "folders" but since this is not a folder it does me no good.

Is there anyway to change the default icon for a share \\<share_name> ?
Is there a way to change the quick access pinned link icon? i checked the registry thinking it would show up in there, but nope.

    cheers

I don't have a NAS to test this on. All I know is that it works for local folders & for network folders [network shares].
If you change the icon for the target folder itself then shortcuts to it will retain that icon even when pinned to Quick access.
    - Right-click on target folder, Properties, Customise, Change icon ...
    - Then create a new shortcut to the folder and it will have the chosen icon so it can be pinned to Quick access.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

That's not how it works for network share like I mentioned above. Read what I stated again

It works for my network computers' shared folders.

I am surprised that a NAS is different.

That's bc you are creating a shortcut to a folder on a share. Thats not what I'm doing, I'm linking the root of a share which has multiple folders and the default quick access icon turns into a default computer icon unfortunately. Anywhere else that root share you can change the icon but in explorer for what ever reason MS in their wisdom decided to default a quick access shortcut for a network root share to a computer icon.

This is about as stupid as not being able to disable aero peak

    Understood.
I've just tested a shortcut to a shared folder itself and I get the same result as you.
My normal habit is to put shortcuts to network shares in my Taskbar Toolbar and that avoids the problem you are having.

    All the best,

I'm hoping someone smarter than us has figured out a way around this. I'm sure there is some tweak out there I'm missing. There is a tweak to change the quick access icon itself but not the pinned share like this unfortunately as far as I know.
