    Hans,

I assume you mean in Windows 11 since Taskbar Toolbars already work in Windows 10.
There are lots of discussions & suggestions in ElevenForum about the Taskbar & getting Taskbar Toolbars back.

Somebody said that TLB could be used on its own in Windows 11 to get Taskbar Toolbars back but somebody else said that was incorrect. The only links I kept to these discussions were
True Launch Bar - ElevenForum - This was more about getting back the ability to have the Taskbar at the top or side of the screen.

I had made notes of about a dozen suggested methods but I tried ExplorerPatcher & it worked so my experiments stopped.

    All the best,

Here is what Yuri Kobets, Tordex, said a while ago:

    True Lauanch Bar is FREE

My name is Yuri Kobets. More than 20 years ago I created the True Launch Bar. True Launch Bar worked on Windows 95 and now it works on Windows 11. All these time thousands of people helped me develop the best launcher in the world by reporting bugs, by wonderful suggestions of new features and by purchasing licenses. I want to say thank you to all people who support True Launch Bar.

Now it’s time to make True Launch Bar free, and I want to explain why True Launch Bar is free now.
Why True Lunch Bar becomes free

True Launch Bar's popularity fell extremely last time. New Windows versions become more comfortable, and the start menu is not so ugly like in Windows XP. Also I understand that True Launch Bar became a tool for advanced PC users. Too many features, and it is difficult to understand most features. The number of customers has decreased and I can’t invest full time into the True Launch Bar development.

The second cause: Unfortunately I’m living in Russia and the government of my country unleashed a war with Ukraine. As a logical result Russia is under sanctions now. And it is almost impossible to receive money from outside of Russia. I believe Ukraine will win this war soon and will return the annexed by Russia territories. But Russia will remain an international outcast for a long time.
    Future of True Launch Bar

I’ll continue development of True Launch Bar but not so active. I will try to fix bugs shortly and maybe will add some new features. Also I consider the ability to open True Launch Br sources.

If you still want to support True Launch Bar with money, you can donate any value in bitcoins.

I hope he is not in prison!!!

Anyway, I will try TLB on my laptop eventueally.

Denis, something went wrong, and I had to reinstall Win 11 on my laptop. No problems there.

I went through your setup procedure again, and all seems to have been done okay.

On my desktop, when I map , I see my desktop (Ethernet), my wife's desktop (Ethernet), and my laptop (WiFi), whether the laptop is on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network. However, in spite of logging in to the laptop with credentials, I get an error message that computer cannot be accessed.

On my laptop, I see "Network" and nothing else.

Is Defender possibly denying access? Is there anything else I can try?

    Hans,

I don't think I have any sensible ideas.

    I doubt it's Defender.
Have you ever had a third-party security application? If so, did you use its specialist uninstall tool when you removed it? If not, get a copy from their website & run it now just in case it's having an effect.

"On my desktop, when I map" - I don't understand that comment.

"On my laptop, I see "Network" and nothing else."
That might be the unreliable File explorer, Network section just playing up so try letting it sit there for an hour.
But it might be an indication that a mistake was made in setting it up. If a computer is not even showing its own ComputerName & its shared folders in the unreliable File explorer, Network section then it does not believe that networking has been set up.
I recently bought a Windows 11 computer and I used exactly the same setting up for it to join my network.
My first thought would be to check that the network was set as discoverable but I would actually work through re-checking every step in the network setup.
In particular, I'd check step 6 and check that you've set it up the way I do it [rather than the tutorial method].

My checklist has always worked for me so I have not developed any network fault-finding skills.
So, if you ask me any further questions, I'll respond as best I can but will essentially just keep saying, "Check that you have done each step of my checklist correctly." which is likely to get annoying.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Denis, I appreciate your help and honesty. I will go through all your steps one more time. What bothers me is that the laptop keeps jumping from 2.4 GHz network to the 5.0 GHz one, all by itself (or by my clicking when things do not go right .

If I can't get it to work, I will live with it for the time being, and use the laptop as an expensive toy for solving NYTimes crossword puzzles and to look up things in Google. I hated our iPad, so it will be a relief.

By the way, the MS networking system must be one of the worst morasses in the history of computing. Legacy upon legacy ad infinitum. I could cry!

Best regards for now, and, again, thanks.

You can set WiFi network priorities & AutoSwitching.
In general, you would want to set the 5GHz network as the higher priority because it's faster & there's less interference [because fewer networks use it].
Change Wireless Network Connection Priority Order - TenForumsTutorial
Turn on or off AutoSwitch for WiFi - TenForumsTutorials
You can write a batch file to reimpose these factors if they ever get lost [which happens sometimes]. I can write that for you if you tell me
    - The names of your WiFi networks in your desired priority order i.e. if more than one is available, which one should the computer choose.
    - The name of your WiFi adapter as shown in Network & sharing centre, Change Adapter settings.

I do have one computer that keeps dropping the 5GHz network so, rather than have network comms disrupted until this computer then connects to the 2.4GHz network, I just went to Settings & 'forgot' the better network on that computer.
Settings, Network, WiFi, Manage known networks, [select the unwanted network], Forget.

Denis, I have saved your last comments, since I have to take a break. I need some time to forget all the failures and all the work, and start fresh in a couple of weeks. Other work has mounted, and I need to attend to it.

By the way, what I meant by ...

"On my desktop, when I map , I see my desktop (Ethernet), my wife's desktop (Ethernet), and my laptop (WiFi), whether the laptop is on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network. "

... was that when I look at the network on my desktop, I see the computers of the network, incl the laptop, but I cannot access files and folders on the laptop from the network. I see files and folders on my and my wife's desktop though.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and I will have get back to this issue when I am rested from it.

Speak to you again, I am sure.
