Permission denied on a mapped drive. Why?

I'm trying to map a drive on a Win10 Pro desktop and accessing it from a Win10 Home laptop.

-network discovery is turned on in both PC's
-the drive D: on the desktop is shared
-the username in both is 'admin' and the password is the same on both
-both users are "administrators" and "local accounts"
    -laptop and pc were re-booted
-the laptop is able to see the shared drive in the desktop

When I select My PC in the laptop, I see the mapped drive on the desktop. Clicking on the mapped drive results in a Network Error message:

    "Windows cannot access \\desktop\d\
You do not not have permission to access..."

I'm looking for suggestions on what I'm missing.

I refuse to use NetBIOS and as a consequence I certainly don't use Windows file sharing. Having said that here's a shot in the dark that may help. Are the computers setup as private in their networking settings? If not, there will be no local computer to computer (LAN) connection possibilities.

What have you mapping a drive or folder? Some folders are protected like users, system, appdata. You have created a share with everyone full control? But then NTFS permission kicks in if that isn't set your going no where
You have double shared a drive all drives by default are shared with a hidden $ ie d$ so if you share again windows is confused try mapping the drive as d$ that must be connected to with admin account on the pc your connecting to
