    increase receive buffer size

    Hi:

I need to increase the "Receive buffer" in a windows 10 system running on a Core i3 10105 10th gen processor, 8GB RAM and 240GB SSD. The default was 512 and woudn't let me go past that. Funnily, on my laptop with Core i5 10th processor, 8GB RAM, it worked.

Device manager -> Network adaptos -> Realtek -> Properties -> advanced Tab -> receive buffer.

Could anyone guide how to go about it and whether this is chipset dependent or processor. Or something else.

    Thank you

You can set the Max size here...

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001\Ndi\Params\*ReceiveBuffers

I would try with various multiples of 128 or 256 or 512... etc.
Make a note of what the value is for Max, "before" you start playing around with the number.

Hi and thank you for your response.

I can't find the "Receive buffer" option. Do I need to create the folder/key? Also, this shows roaming aggressiveness which indicates it's a WiFi adaptor, but I need it on the wired adaptor / ethernet.

    Thanks

    Hello @bro67,

Out of interest, did you notice a substantial increase using the above ?

As per the link above, you should be able to use something like this for example in a CMD Prompt:

    Code:

    REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters" /v "IRPStackSize" /t REG_DWORD /d "30" /f

I used 30 [ double the default value setting ] because of this quote:

While there is little official Microsoft documentation concerning this parameter, the default setting is 15, which is adequate for most normal speed (10 Mbps) network connections. The maximum number is limited to 50, and Microsoft warns that choosing values in the 33 to 38 range can cause stability issues.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I think perhaps the receive buffer is limited by the network integrated card's chipset. So if it's increased (surpassing the driver's default setting) you'll just choke off the network card and have even worse performance...

    I could be wrong though.

NOT necessarily. I looked at a few sites and they seemed to recommend the above to increase transfer rates over a Local Network !

Sorry, I was refereeing to what the OP mentioned with this:

Device manager -> Network adaptos -> Realtek -> Properties -> advanced Tab -> receive buffer.
    I should have quoted it.
