idk man i am not American so i don't know what your good Telcos are but any first grade carrier will have a good Satellite option available. Which should be affordable and will be about as fast as a normal wired node connection.

So any ISP that is considered first grade will have good options some ISP will lease lines off of first grade carriers these are the less desirable ISP to go with, it does not really matter that much all the same but you might as well go to the top ISP's to get good services first hand.

It may be a surprise to many but even in the United States there are many parts mainly in rural areas where even getting cell service is problematic. Even when cell service is available the Internet through a hotspot is not always available. Even if it is then it may have a very low speed at best. Finding a different carrier is not an option because there may not be any.

There has Satellite Internet services available for at least 20 years. They are expensive and only offered relatively slow download speeds. They also had a very latency (or ping rate) so were generally not suitable for playing games.

This is rapidly changing with companies like Starlink (50–250Mbps) which reduces the deficiencies of traditional Satellite Internet services by having thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit. Starlink's initial monthly rate is $110 USD which may seem high to some. However, for many of its customers it is the difference between having no or unacceptable Internet service and a service that is not the fastest but at least acceptable.

BTW, I know someone that has to drive to their local library and log into the its WiFi to attend a Zoom meeting. If the library is not open they do this from their car. They have to do this because they don't have good Internet service from their home.

Call service is problematic in any country in rural areas but its not the same as satellite internet two different beasts. Satellite was bad 20 years ago because it was new its been good for like the last 10 years.

If OP is rural and like they are saying bad infrastructure there then Satellite is not only their only option it is their best option and they don't need starlink specifically for that.

Gaming also does not require fast internet contrary to popular belief or what we would think, the bandwidth for online gaming is comparable to that of like chat rooms or other net services.
The main game loop is doing all the crunching locally and then its very lightweight netcode that is sending information between computers like kb's of data sent not mb or gb.

Ping is also not as cracked up as many people think anything sub 1000ms is playable and is only really a problem in fighting games when it gets close to or higher than that.
You will automatically have high ping like a few thousand or more if you have any range of connection issues to the game server but that is not that same thing as its a byproduct of bad connection.

Shards also exist for this reason so if i am getting say 250ms to the shard i am playing on then that means everyone else on the same shard is getting that same ms unless they live right next to the server.

This day in age we can have sub 1000ms between any two locales in the world basically and that is regardless of what internet you have.

i play some games that only have US servers from here and i get like 600ms or less that is 0.6 seconds. I could play Wow or Ultima and get like 300 to 400 ms to US. 0.3 or 0.4 seconds is not noticeable on games like this and you would have to have a side by side screen that is simulating the delay to notice that sort of lag in real time because its all relative to the user.

    Amazon Prime Download Speed

Perhaps we might keep in mind that the topic is NOT satellite or wifi service but the download speed of videos from Amazon Prime - even when downloading them to be saved and watched later. In my case, that would be using satellite service which normally runs over 15Mbps.

When other programs/services are downloading at over 10-15 Mbps and Prime Video is muddling along at 1-2Mbps, one wonders why. (Especially when trying to download in the middle of the night in order to avoid congestion.)

    Parentetically,
Satellite service in these USA is not great everywhere, and Starlink isn't availble evrywhere - especially in the SE sections of the country. Wifi is not available everywhere. Landlines are not available everywhere. Please, no generalizations ! I know folks who live less than 2 hours drive from Washington, DC who have no satellite, no wifi, and no landline services available at their home - the sort of home that has indoor plumbing and electricity.

    Take care folks !

Maybe you should keep in mind that this is a forum and that topics are subject to discussion we are still within context when talking about Satellite. I suggested Satellite because it can go anywhere in the world that is the whole point of it.

Its already been answered Amazon prime like any other web service out there will be shaping the speeds especially for video and streaming services and definitely for downloading.

It also is taken into to note that OP said they are in the boondocks and there is not very good infrastructure there all these things add up slow hotspot, Amazon shaping, ISP/telco shaping probably bad cell services/towers.

Yeah get Satellite its good for this sort of scenario and it can beam to anywhere on the planet.
