    Chromecast connection basics

The new Thread I posted on this a couple of hours ago has vanished, maybe due to general connection problems, so if it should re-appear my apologies if there is some duplication --- this was only going to be an update but I will keep it short

    1. after power off resetting and moving to a different HDMI port the light on my Chromecast (gen 1) continues to be FLICKERING white. What is the significance of this?
    2. Chromecast is now shown in the TVs list of Sources, the Welcome screen shows the code for it and my attempts are now registered on the screen, but in Google Home I get as far as 'Chromecast is connecting', yet while it shows the correct (new) Network name it cannot connect
    3. this failure has appeared after a new Router & Network a couple of weeks ago --- Router has also been reset
    4. I have not yet tried the 'by-pass 5G' fix
    5. the attempt to connect Chromecast stopped my general WiFi connection -- I had to change it back in Windows Settings to access this Forum again---- it seems I cannot have both at the same time, but even when Chromecast is selected it does not connect correctly
    6. Home notifies there is a connection issue

    Make and model of router.

    New network? What kind?

Make sure the device is tuned to the HDMI port you plugged into. But this issue is more than likely network related. Something might be blocking multicast traffic and the likes.

Look in your router's settings under WiFi for anything related to client side isolation or something like that. Something that isolates clients from one another. It seems like you don't have local client communication ability in the router you have now and that's more than likely a router setting of some sort.

Chromecast's protocol being used here is called "Google Cast" and it's primarily a local (in your home network) communication. So something maybe in your router's WiFi or firewall settings is blocking local device to device communications. AP isolation is another word for it. Looking in your your router's manual might help.

Keep the HDMI port the same. That's not related here at all. This is a network issue.

Stay abreast of any and all router updates as well... There's a whole slew of security vulnerabilities here, but make sure UPnP is off, you set a good, strong router password, and don't use port forwarding. If port forwarding is needed, instead use ZeroTier or Twingate. I think Cloudflare has their solution as well.

    Edit-

Sorry for the delay in responding and thanks for the suggestions. Some of the info was outside my limited knoweledge so I started trying to learn a bit more, but then found the solution. For reasons I do not understand the problem had been caused by my new BT Halo Router (BT is British Telecom) being connected to the TV not only by WiFi but also by an Ethernet cable. I came across a suggestion that this might be the culprit so I removed the cable and the Chromecast now works fine. If I remember correctly the Ethernet cable was used to get the new Router recognised by the TV (WPS had not been successful), after which the new BT WiFi network was set up successfully (but apparantly not for Chromecast!)

I hope this makes some sense

I have an audio chromecast, I've had like your problem before, there is a reset to do with physical button. After that I reconfigured it with google home.

    chromecast tv generation 1 reset.

I have this method but if it doesn't work look for another one.
    If you haven't already.
    "From the Chromecast device
1 Leave your Chromecast plugged into the TV, then press and hold the button on the Chromecast for at least 25 seconds or until the solid LED light starts flashing red.
2 Once the LED indicator flashes white and the TV screen stops showing an image, release the button. The device will then reboot."

Yeah, that to me sounds like you had a temporally IP address conflict. That can jam things up in the router - the router table.

Refrain from using WPS. It's very hackable. Just use a good strong password that's hard to brute force. Like, HddrHU66*&%)
