    Increase Download speed?

I have the 500Mbps Ultra internet from Spectrum.
Speedtest tells me I'm getting an average of 200Mbps which sounds right because there's 6 Smart Tv's, 3 tablets, 3 smart phones, 2 Echo Dots, 1 Xbox S, and a couple smart plugs in the house.
My average download speed is 40MB/s.
Is that an optimal download speed or am I missing something?
I just feel like it should be faster but I'm probably wrong here.

Can't tell you for sure but Spectrum in my area provides a Modem and maybe a Router if needed or might see a combo unit in use. I use a Wireless DSL service with a PoE modem [not the same as Wired or Wireless/Wi-Fi networking], needing more devices connecting I added a Wireless Router. The number of devices connected to the Router do affect the actual download from the Modem, what is provided by the ISP. For my actual speeds I plug the Ethernet cable from the Modem directly to one Desktop computer, leave the Router, Wired devices and Wireless devices out of the test.

I am using a Motorola MG 7550 modem w/ wifi.
I know Ethernet is the best choice but we rent so I can't drill holes to run a wire and I don't want to have an unsightly wire loose for the little ones to pull on or cut.

My PC is equipped with an Asus AC-88.
    No router though.

I'm guessing the problem is the number of devices.
Sounds like you're running a RadioShack there.

    500Mb/s divided by 8 = 62.5 MB/s
    (8 bits in one byte)

    Sounds about right. I'm on a 300/300 connection (wired) and I get about 37-38 MB/s. (300/8 = 37.5)
Only one comp using the connection... and NO router.
    Verizon FIOS.

I usually download a torrent (with a lot of seeds) to find my MB/s. And I am hitting about 37MB/s and change.

Also, don't forget that remote systems have their own bottlenecks. Very few can make use of the full bandwidth of your local connection.

Oh, so it's normal with the amount of devices in the home. I can accept that.

Yeah... I'd say you're doing pretty good for all those devices.

Ofc, you can double check. Just disconnect or shut off, everything but one tablet.
Have that tablet temporarily wired connection, then download a torrent with loads of seeds.
    You "should" hit 62+ MB/s

It only matters if all devices are downloading at the same time. Just having the devices on the network should not affect the others. How are you testing download speed for the comouter? Post some results.

I use speed test. This was my highest result after turning off everything except the computer.
