Easy way to share Windows7 directory and read from Windows10?

    Hello,

To migrate from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I need to share a directory on the Windows 7 host. Read-only is fine.

    Here's what I tried:
    1. Windows7 server: Right-clicked on folder, Properties > Sharing > Share: Homegroup=Read ("This may take a few minutes")
    2. Windows10 client: Through Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center, turned on network discovery, opened Win7 server: "This folder is empty." DOS box > net view: no host listed either. Can't say I'm surprised.

Is there a no-brainer way to read from the Windows 7 through Explorer? Like a FTP/WWW server but Windows Explorer-compatible (Total Commander, really)?

Since it's a home computer on a 192.168 network behind an ADSL router and for a time limited period, security is really not an issue.

    Thank you.

Thanks. As I expected, it's a bit too involved for me.

I'll just copy the whole directory to a USB hard drive, and connect it to the Windows10 host.
